    3. Val, Do you know the following: Did Francisco and Maria marry in Madeira or the USA? Do you know dates of migration to the USA? After Antone's birth did the family remain in the Oakland CA area, if not where? Do you know the abt or actual ages for Joseph and Theresa? If list members will post the names of individuals that they are researching from Madeira, I can check what I have in my computer from the many pedigree charts that Sr. Luis de Sousa Mello, the retired Director of the Madeira Archives prepared for me. Willing to share whatever I have. Family: Francisco Silva brn. abt. 1850 mar. Marie Nunes Children: Antone brn in Oakland, Ca. 1892, but don't know if brother Joseph & sister Theresa were born in Maderia. No know middle initials. Any help would be much appreciated. 3. I am going to insert myself here in this dialogue if for no other reason than to better understand where you folks are going in trying to trace your ancestors. Antone is shown as being born in Oakland in ca. 1892. What records do you have to base that assertion upon? If you have it, great. That is a good date and location to start with. Where did Antone parents come from to get to Oakland, during what years and via whats means of travel? This is where is gets complicated in looking at the Portuguese migration to the U.S. My own family, for example, came to Oakland via Hilo, Hawaii. The dates for the migration of Portuguese from Hawaii to the San Francisco/Bay Area may well not have been much at all during the 1892 period. However, Portuguese migrating across the U.S. from the East Coast, in comparison, may well fit in during the 1892 period. That would be great if you can trace your ancestors from the Azores to the East Coast and subsequently to the West Coast. In my own family's case, they gave up the plantation life and migrated to Oakland in 1905. If I can be of any help in trying to pin down the migration lines, please advise.
