Dear Julie Thanks for that information. Unfortunately the names I gave you are all I have at this stage. Even though my mom recalls that my great-grandmother's mother's name was Mathilde, I still don't have a positive link to a surname there. According to my mother as well, my great-grandmother's mother (Mathilde) died while she was a young girl. According to my mom my great-grandmother had a step-brother but does not know if there were any other siblings. Unfortunately she cannot remember the name of the step-brother except that he came to Lourenco Marques and he had a restaurant. According to the Death Notice which I found in the archives here in SA for my great-grandfather (Marceal Vieira Serena), all my great-grandmother had written in the space for his parents was Antonio as his father and Maria as his mother. This obviously does not help me due to the fact that there are so many "Antonio"s and "Maria"s. There is an embargo on documents that are less than 20 years old in the South African archives so they are therefore not available for public research. My great-grandmother died in 1985 so the embargo on her archival documentation should have ceased last year. To date, there doesn't seem to have been any information placed on NAAIRS relating to her. I will have to contact the National Archives myself and see if they hold any information for her. I have just recently joined the Genealogical Society of South Africa who have their meetings and do a lot of their research at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) in Silverton Road here in Durban. As soon as my application is complete and once I am able to get access to their records, hopefully I will get some more information (perhaps birth certificates, marriage certificates and the like). Until then, my quest continues. I will not give up, no matter that my great-grandmother's children appear to want to hide so much information from us. She was born 1887. Her father was Inacio D'Abreu and her mother was Maria Augusta. That is all I have. I do plan to go to the LDS and order the film for the marriage license of my great-grandfather and ggmother. I will know more who their parents were then.
