    3. Dear List I see that a lot of people are referring lately to a book called "Arquivo Historica da Madeira". Does anybody have any idea where I can get a copy of this? As you know, Faria was the name of his wifes family. I searched the book ARQUIVO HISTORICA DA MADEIRA and to the area of Campanario that is in the Concelho de Camara De Lobos. This is next to Ribeira Grande. Mother said that her earlier family lived in Ribeira Grande however before the great landslide there they located in Campanario. There was a great landslide at Ribeira Grande and perhaps you may have difficulty find some records. I had that problem with Campanrio because of a great fire that destroyed the church and records. In the Arquivo book I did find several Inacio de Abreu married to Maria Joaquina in 1814. I would suggest that if you donot locate your relations in Ribeira Grande, try some of the nearby parishes. The parrish in Companario is Sao Bras or Braz. The notation of the book that the Arquivo were able to locate the above mentioned Inacio is --Book 314 page 154 vo. The Arquivo Historica Da Madeira book is the indice of the registry of concelhos and there are several. There may be one on Ribeira Grande. Sub title--Indice dos registos de Casamentos do Concelho de Camara de Lobos 1564 - 1893. My d' Abreu's connected to Gonsalves, Faria, Moniz, Fernandes, and Silva. Hope that you are successful in your search and look in neighboring parishes as well. 3. Dear List, I too have D'Abreu on Madeira, mostly from Ponto do Sol in the late 1800s, but as I have move further back, family is also located in Ribeira Brava, Camara do Lobos, Lugar de Baixo, Serra da Agua, S. Vicente. Tabua etc... In doing further research the first known d'Abreu to the island is Beatris back in the late 1400s. I have participated in the National Geographic DNA project and up loaded my results to the Madeira project. I have not checked it for awhile but at last look I was the only one reporting the E3B haplogroup. I found this very interesting as this is the mid east, southern med and northern Africa strain. I have a great number of names from the island, to numerous to name. But if anyone is interested in sharing or thinks I can help them let me know, I have gone back as far as 1558. Lou "For those who have fought for it....Freedom has a taste the protected will never know" " Without the Brave there would be no land of the Free" A new Recruit asked an old Warrior, "What is War like?" The old timer replied, "A bunch of us went down to Gettysburg one day, a lot of people died. If you weren't there you wouldn't understand." -----Original Message----- From: prt-madeira-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:prt-madeira-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Marcia & Roland Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 12:16 PM To: prt-madeira@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Families of Madeira Dear List I see that a lot of people are referring lately to a book called "Arquivo Historica da Madeira".
