Dear List I am so excited with the little bit of information which I found today that I just had to share it with you. I found out from my mom where my great-grandparents are buried. They are indeed buried in a Family Plot at Stellawood Cemetery in Durban, South Africa. I telephoned Stellawood Cemetery this morning and spoke to a very nice gentleman who gave me all the information I needed. I finally have this information from the Cemetery's records:- Lawrence Serena - +/- 6 months old, male, buried on 8 December 1943 - he therefore probably would have been born around June/July 1943; Marie Loudres Serena - 17 years old, female, buried on 8 March 1948 - she would have been born around 1931; Marcial Serena (my great-grandfather) - 58 years old, male, buried on 1 April 1959; Maria Clara Serena (my great-grandmother) - 79 years old, female, buried on 7 January 1985. I know that Luis mentioned that the "Calderia" was perhaps mis-spelt on my great-grandfather's Death Notice which was written in my great-grandmother's own hand but now this casts a slightly different light on her second name because in the Burial Register her name is recorded as "Clara" - so now, I think that there is a possibility that her maiden name was "Caldeira"!!!! Only time will tell. The spellings are all according to the Burial Register that the cemetery holds. My search is now on for my great-grandparents' Marriage Certificate and their Death Certificates as well as Lawrence's Birth and Death Certificates and Marie Loudres Birth and Death Certificates, which will all be here in South Africa (Birth Certificates will probably only be found in Portugal - as I have already mentioned before). So, I sent someone to the Department of Home Affairs which is near me at my place of employment. They informed me that I need identity numbers (this is absolutely ridiculous) - but I don't think that my great-grandparents would have had identity numbers if they never naturalized in South Africa, and Lawrence and Marie were probably far too young to have identity numbers. In any event, I e-mailed quite a few people at the Head Office of the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria and requested their assistance - surely somehow these Certificates can be traced through the SURNAME. I await responses from them. I hope I won't hit a dead end again. I will NOT give up. Kind regards, Marcia Bezuidenhout South Africa Researching: Serena, Vieira, De'Abreu, Caldeira
