Bob, Here's the link for the arquivo's website http://www.arquivo-madeira.org. They have the marriage database online and baptism database for Porto Santo online too. Hopefully other areas will be available soon. Select 'Base de Dados' on the left-hand side of the homepage under Servicos de Comunicacao. Searching the database can take a while - it's a little quircky. You need to try it your search in various ways if at first you get no results. It only accepts spelling with the required accents and cedillas, so I copy the names such as Antonio (which has the little accent on the o and Mendonca (which has a cedilla on the c) and then cut and paste that into the search. Or you can just type in the first three letters of the Name, say Anto and see what it comes up with. When all else has failed I have actually (over a course of hours) gone through the database under the correct letters to find the listing I wanted. Happy searching!
