Things sure have been quiet online..... Is anyone familiar with a church that is named Sao Mame do Infista? I don't think it is on the island, it may actually be on the mainland. My father's family is mostly from the island, but it seems a marriage may have taken place at this unknown church. I have tried looking in LDS for listings in Porto as that is where the man's family originates, but not able to find any data there regarding this church. Thanks Mary da Silva Frost
I use this site to look for parishes http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=List+of+Freguesias+of+Portugal%3A+A&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&linktext=A if you look under Matosinhos there is a Sao Mamede de Infesta. Matosinhos is north of Porto as you can see by this map http://www.portugalvirtual.pt/_tourism/costaverde/porto/ Good luck, Luis Beal tiamaria <tiamaria@frostdesign.com> wrote: Things sure have been quiet online..... Luis: Thank you so much for the information and the link. So much of this geneology stuff is like solving a mystery or putting together a puzzle. Trial and error and sometimes just sheer luck. One question that will probably never be anwered for me is- should this church be the source of the marriage- how in the world did my G-grandmother from Machico, Madeira wind up getting married to a man from Porto at a church in Matosinhos? I have located her descendants back a few generations and they are all from Machico or the surrounding areas. I could understand Lisboa or Coimbra as the universities there draw from all over. I do not know anything about Matosinhos and I guess it is time to learn. The adventure continues.... Thanks again, Mary
