Cece, N.F.P. by F. Gayo is not available on-line... yet. This great work has about a dozen books. "1831" is the year F.Gayo died. My guess is Gayo learned the Family history of all those families from the descendants of those families and from the works by other genealogists like: · D. Antonio Caetano de Souza [1674-1759], · Manuel de Souza da Silva [fins do séc. XVII], · Antonio de Villas Boas e Sampaio [1629-1701], · Cristóvão Alão de Morais [1632-1693] . Manso de Lima, Famílias de Portugal-1749 . Henriques de Noronha, Nobiliário da Ilha da Madeira-1700 · Marquês de Montebello [1595-1662], · Frei D. Antonio Brandão [1584-1637], · João Batista Lavanha [1555-1624], · Gaspar Fructuoso [1551-1591], · D. Antonio de Lima Pereira [-1582], · Damião de Góis [1502-1574], · Livro Velho III [1360-1365], · Conde D. Pedro [entre 1340 e 1344], · Livro Antigo de Linhagens [c.1343], · Livro Velho II [séc. XIII], · Livro Velho I [1280-1320]. You may not believe this, but I had the original book handwritten by Damiao de Gois on my hands a couple of years ago. Francisco Doria prefers to see by himself the original documents (wills, sale and purchase of real estate, royal grants, etc.). He "made me" find for him some documents that were supposed to have never exist. However, there they were, for anyone to find them, in the National Archive (Torre do Tombo) in Lisbon. ---------- > From: Cece Camara > Date: Sábado, 2 de Abril de 2005 15:43 > > I agree that it would be great if we could all try to remember to mention > our sources. > Very often, it might open our eyes to a new source we weren't even aware > existed (for instance NFP is new to ME!!...is it online anywhere??). > And one more thing, this may sound like a really stupid question...but where > do the > people that write these history books such as this, written in 1831 > (I'm assuming thats what you mean?) get their info from.
