In my last message here re the book that lists the names of early Madeiran settlers, I did not correctly identify the publishing house involved. That company is Max Niemeyer Verlag, of Tubingen, Germany. The book is one of a series published under the general title Patronymica Romanica. I should note, additionally, that the four cases of people cited as Jardim actually are cited as "do Jardim" (in two cases, "do Jardym"), clearly evidencing the place-name derivation involved here.
