    1. [PT-MADEIRA] Non indexed marriages in Canical

    3. Hello everyone: I have been viewing FHC films from Canical and came across some items that may interest someone else looking for these people. While reading through some death notices I came across two marriages listed in the midst of them. These marriages are NOT indexed on ARM. THe first is June 27, 1774 Gaspar Vieira and Mariana do Nascimento. The record is not clear on anything else but that the marriage took place. No family connections are listed. I also later found that they had a son Pedro who died in 1782 and then Mariana died in 1798. The other misplaced marriage record is May 28, 1787- Francisco Nunes and Isabel de Sousa. Nothing else legible. I don't know if this helps anyone, but it seemed a shame to not share it. Mary da Silva Frost

    3. Hello Tom: I don't think so but as I have learned from others- it seems like all Madeirans are related if you go back a few generations. :-) My da Silvas came to Massachusetts in 1920s and, of the three brothers, my father was the only one to have children. I know my da Silva grandfather had at least one sibling back on the island (who I believe was a sister) but I do not know much else positively about the da Silva line. I can go back 2 more generations and then I am stuck. My da Silva line goes to Manuel da Silva from the Acores. He did not marry the mother of his child, Pedro Jose da Silva, though he baptized his son and his son carried his name. I have had much more success with my paternal grandmother's family- hence my connections to Machico, Canical, and Gaula on the island and Porto on the mainland. BTW- if there is anyone out there who needs info on Canical- I have films and am reviewing them now. I will be happy to look for something specific or to keep my eyes open for certain individual names if so desired. I wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year. Mary da Silva Frost
