Hi Margaret.... I have a few ancestors that comes from Campanario...among them are: Simao Gomes Guedes that married in 1626 Ines Fernandes. That Simao is the son of Luis Gomes Guedes Filho married in 1585 Francisca Duarte (from Tabua, where i have many ancestors by the way). Ines Fernandes was the daugther of Manuel Fernandes and Ana Goncalves (both from Campanario) Among my Abreu ancestors are Manuel Abreu from Ponta do Sol (not far from Campanario) that amrried with leonor Rodrigues and are the parents of Filipa Sao Tiago (born in 1689, my ancestor) and her brother Antonio de Abreu. Also have some Abreu de Macedo from Ribeira Brava and Abreu de Sa from Lugar da Serra. >From Faria family, this part comes from Sao Martinho (Funchal) in the early 17th century. do you have your whole family tree done?? until which year?? Im sure we probably are related in some point...the task is just find out with which ancestor :) Leandro
Leandro: Abreu: This family took, it appears, their name from the Villa of Abreu., that controled the parish of S. Pedro de Merufe, boundary of Moncao, and the most oldest nobleman of it known is Gomes de Abreu, father of Rui Gomes de Abreu and of Garcia Gomes de Abreu, who lived in the time of D. Afonso Henrique, of that villal, and possessed the lordship of other lands of the area. The family ofthe Abreu not only was expanded by the blood washed of all the noble houses of Minho, a great part of the Portugal and many of strangers, but also the valor that they always demonstrated by spirit, by pen and sword, by the church, the letters and the arms not only on the continenet, but ofthe lands beyond, empoyed his endeavers and spilled his blood with exuberance and displayed the annal and the chancellery regions of the military orders. The most important branch of this family was those who had the lordships of regaladas, who entered by marriage to Diogo Gomes de Abreu with D. Leonor Viegas de Rego, from whom descended the men of Paco de Anguiao, those from the house of Amial, of Mos and of Carreira-Abreu e Limas e Abreus Tavoras. This is from the book of Amoral of Portugal.
