The word most priests used was "defunto" and it means deceased as Mary reported. In a record it would indicate that the person named was deceased at the time the record was made. Ie: parent of bride or groom is named although they are deceased at the time of the wedding. The good thing about that notation is that it gives you a timeline- you know that someone is deceased by a point in time. There are a few others like that and some they use with given names like Mel for Manuel. Denise D'Antona In a message dated 8/30/2007 4:16:56 P.M. This line, I was told from my father, that we have Royal blood but, I am not sure which side. Someone was the child of a count. The story goes....two kids were raisedby the maid after their mother died. It was said that Ludvina is the direct descendant to the count? I have never done anything on this side as I have been working on my Pestana side as I am looking for my mothers missing brother. I though I would post to see is anyone can shed any light on this story that we grew up hearing. It would be great to finally shed some truth on this. My paternal grandfather George Fernandes b.
