Hello Paula, Whenever someone mentions my grandparents village of Arco da Calheta, my eyes grow large.  I do not have any information concerning your potential gg grandparents travel, however I did a look up on the films of Arco da Calheta and found the christening of Vencislau.  He was christened on 22 Mar 1827, he was born on the 2nd of March.  Interesting to note that on the left margin of the record it says Vencislau fo de Joao Roiz Fra.  However in the record it gives the father's name as Manuel Rodrigues Ferreira (a mistake I assume) and the mother's name Margarida Antonia.  Joao and Margarida were married on 14 Apr 1825 in Arco with Joao's parents being Jose Rodrigues Ferreira and Maria da Ressurecio(deceased).  Margarida's parents were Antonio Rodrigues Capelo and Maria de Jesus.  I hope you can actually confirm that this is your family.  The genealogy goes back even further in Arco da Calheta.  Do you know if Vencislau married in Madeira? Wow!!!! I was not sure that I would hear anything. Thank you for such a quick reply and to provide me with more details that you found on the Arco films. How does one access these? Where are you located? Did Vencislau marry in Madeira? I assume he did as he was travelling with wife Gregoria and two kids, Manuel 12 anos and Maria 3 anos. in 1872 and he was age 45. Assuming these were the only children they had as I do not have any further details. He got married late for a Portuguese man. So I would assume circa marriage to be 1859 1860 based o Manuel being 12 and assuming he was the first born?. Is there anything further that you can check for me or advise me where I may do so???? Maria 3 years travelling with them is my g grandmother and we know that she arrived in Demerara at a very young age. The names Vencislau and Gregoria are in my records and were confirmed by elders. These names are not the very common Manuels and Antonios. So I can only hope I am on the right path to bridging my Maderia South America connections. Any further help, suggestions are appreciated. This is the first real anything in Maderia......I have to follow through with this and would welcome any additional help. I am also researching Pestana of Camara da Lobos with no real luck hear.
