Ok, ok, I thought you were talking about the so called "Azevedo Cardosos", which are something quite different... Unfortunately, at this moment, I have no link to the Gaula Cardosos, though I believe I descend from them by way of a Machico ancestor called Marcos Nunes da Fonseca or Marcos Nunes Calaça. By casuality, some days ago, while studying the line of a friend of my grand-ma, D. Arlete Caldas, a teacher, I unexpectedly found out that she was the great-grand-daughter of the last Morgado of S. João Latrão, and her father (also a teacher) still lived in the big house when he married her mother, both of them over the tender age of 40. Curiously, in the marriage record of her great-grand-father (in the S. João Latrão chapel, of course), he is still referred to as "Morgado", though that title had already been extinguished back then (1841).
