My gr-gr-gr grandparents were married in Machico, Madeira. Not sure if it's the same family. Joao Gomes Jardim to Francisca da Encarnacao in 1843 . I haven't ordered their marriage certificate yet, so don't know who their parents were. I got 9 records from the Archives and it took almost 2 months from the time I mailed the check from Hawaii in January until I received the records in the mail in March, but it was very well worth it. The representatives at the Madeira Archives emailed me now and then to keep me abreast of the progress. Very helpful. I would suggest that you go to the Madeira Archive website and obtain the documents of marriage and such. Example: I found Jose Gomes Jardim and Maria Jose de Freitas' marriage. They were married in the Parish of São Martinho in 1910 as indicated in Book 6666 A page 53. This document should have their parents and most like both grandparents listed. The archive address is http://www.arquivo-madeira.org You can read it in English by selecting English Version at the bottom. I am also sure that you will receive much information from this emailing as well.
