Somewhere down in the deep DNA markers there is the GJ marker and chorus and clan flags. > I too descend from a Gomes Jardim through my Fernandes Veloza line. In that time it was reserved for nobility and wealthy landowners. (info coming from Manuel Abranches de Soveral, a leading genealogist) The GJs I guess had one foot in one status and the other in the other status. They managed to have a "baron" though, and several connections with Madeiran nobility. The baron was João Severino Bettencourt Jardim (1830- 1906) (Barão de Jardim e Torre), son of José Antonio Sérvulo Jardim, morgado da Torre. In Registo bio-bilbiográfico de Madeirenses (século XIX e XX) dedicated to illustrious Madeirans- the Jardins have a relevant number of pages. Perhaps they enter the top list of families with more entries. They beat my GH, by three pages or so. (The GH have 4 pages, with several entries, my grandfather included). Of course, in the Jardins section, Alberto J. is there. But no mention to him being from the GJ lineage. And you know how meticulous, punctilious, is Clode as far as lineages are regarded. He never fails to inscribe a person in his lineage, or clan. As far as Alberto J. and lineages are concerned, Clode just refers that his mother D. Marceliana do Patrocínio Jesus Cardoso, was from the "Cardosos, de Santana." I didn't know this branch of Carodosos. Only the Cardosos, from Gaula, one of my ancestors-clans from the distant 15 th century. Any idea about them? Anyway the Calheta Gomes Jardim are the forefathers of our president?
