    3. Luis/Pat, Sorta correct...but not the complete picture. If you are looking at the ancestry ONE WORLD TREE then you are correct...ancestry just pools all the family trees they can get their hands on and makes matches based on certain criteria...it does a really poor job of this and I long ago gave up trying to get anything out of it as it is a complete mess. Then there are the FAMILY TREES - a completely different area - and a completely different problem...even bigger than the other if you ask me!! So here, people like you and I upload our trees to ancestry and we make them public or private. Way back when I was a stupid little girl (ok maybe 5 or 6 years ago!) I thought I was doing a great thing by making my tree public. Well every person that was brand new to genealogy saw a common name in my tree and decided it was their relative too...so they would download it to theirs and now parts of my tree are everywhere that they don't belong. At first I would write to each of them to try to find where our link was...and then I finally realized after many times of doing this that there almost always was no link. So now it is a private tree - and people have to write to me to get further info. While we can blame all of the neophytes out there, still have to give ancestry most of the blame for this because they let it happen in the first place and there is now no way to reign in the beast now that it has been let loose. I would never spend a minute researching anything on the ancestry family trees or the one world tree. I am sure there is something good somewhere in there if you look long and hard enough but really it is not worth the time of day for me! I complained to them a few years ago when my line had people in it I had never heard of but they said they are just suggestions and they were not going to change it. I know they do not look like suggestions. Just want you to know that is Ancestry's fault and not the people that posted their pedigree.
