    3. Cece, Thank you for adding to this thread, hopefully you will link with Carolyn's husband's family. Do you have any LDS films on loan for the Santa Cruz area? Cruz, Madeira...it's possible that there's a link with your family... Thank you for the additional information supplied in your last posting. You asked if "does this make sense to you," yes it does, but only you can answer what you're truly trying to establish... It may prove difficult in locating the descendants of your husband's uncles (Manuel Jr. & Antonio). >From this point on if you're only interested in locating family members in the USA, then you will need to start with your husband's uncles/aunts looking for death records either on line (using FamilySearch.org - or any of the other source that may be fee based). Post to as many of the online message/boards, or even creating one for the surname Soares if there isn't already one... I did locate a couple that may be Soares family members, but without actually seeing additional records it's not possible to establish if they are your husband's family... Now if your interested in tracing your husband's Portuguese roots in Santa Cruz, Madeira, there are records online (or again through the film service of the Mormon Church) that can be ordered and viewed... The information so far is the following: John Ernest Soares (indexed as Seares) b. 16 Aug 1939 Jefferson, Tx parents John Seares and Ruby Mae Landry...(I'm assuming this is your husband/and his parents...correct me if I'm wrong... Manuel Soares(Sr.) son of Antonio Soares and Doria da Camara.(Antonio and Doria married 1868 S. Cruz) Rosa Alves daughter of Manuel Alves and Juliana de Freitas (Manuel and Juliana married 1863 S. These records can be ordered from the Madeira Archives...it's possible that Manuel Alves and Juliana de Freitas' marriage record will name their parents...giving you still another generation of ancestors...If you need help in how to order from the Madeira Archives just let me/us know... These records may also be on film, that can be obtained from your local Mormon Church Family History Centers...Check out their website at - www.familysearch.org for a family history center nearest your home...as well as the film numbers for the Santa Cruz, Madeira parish... And it's possible that other members on this list are researching their ancestors/relatives in the Santa Cruz, Madeira area and can add additional researching sources...
