Thank you Mary... I always find it very interesting when a vital record contains the wording of "no judge with her as she is emancipated by "alvara," of judge." What exactly does this mean... is it saying that she does not reside with her parents, or that she's not a slave...? In the many documents that I personally have viewed I have never come across this wording, wonder if it's the "norm," to a given area... Your husband's family appears to be located in the Sao Goncalo; Sao Roque; Funchal; Sao Antonio; Sao Martinho area of the island. The only connection to this area in my family is the possible connection with the daSilva Se' and Goncalves Se' surname/family. Yet to link to my main branch. My family, though with a sprinkling all over the island, primarily settled in the Calheta, Estreito daCalheta, and the Arco daCalheta... I checked for Santos ancestors from Ponta do Sol, but did not see any...
