I did not click on that option...I wanted people to be able to contact me, and then I would make the decision whether or not to allow them to view my tree. Note: although your tree will instantly become private, it usually takes about a week or more to be reflected in the search index... ALSO NOTE: If some one contacts you after your tree is a Private Tree and you accept their request to view your tree, be sure to let them only view/contribute information to you via email, and not to be able to "edit/change," any of your tree information. I phoned and spoke with one of their service reps...and was told that I should read their "disclaimer." When I pointed out that many of the suggestions do not even apply, it was like she was a "broken record," and kept repeating the same phrase of "read the disclaimer, and/or fill out the customer service email form. Well, I did, and it's now over one week still waiting for a reply to my email. I personally think that Ancestry.com is totally aware of what's going on, but for whatever reason do not wish to address the problems. Last evening I did received a reply from a person I had sent a message to, informing her that their linking and dates were incorrect...she said that she was well aware of the errors and was working on trying to correct them...but that her time spent making corrections is limited due to summer vacation and her children being out of school. I wrote back and said when she's ready that I would be more than happy to help her. Hope I do hear from her again, since she's incorrectly linked with my da Silva Se' family. I think that Ancestry.com has become so large and their main concern is not to learn of ways of improving their programs, but to continue to grow, all under the "umbrella," of what's in their "disclaimer," and it's "not their fault." Well, I guess I'm not the only one concerned with their suggestions/linking methods...and some would say if you're not happy with Ancestry.com just pull your pedigree information and cancel your subscription... I complained to them a few years ago when my line had people in it I had never heard of but they said they are just suggestions and they were not going to change it.
