I personally think that Ancestry.com is totally aware of what's going on, but for whatever reason do not wish to address the problems. Last evening I did received a reply from a person I had sent a message to, informing her that their linking and dates were incorrect...she said that she was well aware of the errors and was working on trying to correct them...but that her time spent making corrections is limited due to summer vacation and her children being out of school. I wrote back and said when she's ready that I would be more than happy to help her. Hope I do hear from her again, since she's incorrectly linked with my da Silva Se' family. 3. Basically the same was happening to me, before I, with the help of Cece made my tree Private...I've contact many tree owners, but only two have replied back to me...their linking to my family still remain incorrectly linked to mine. Another thing that "drives me crazy," with this site, is how people can have more than one tree, basically with each different tree having the same information...I can't understand why someone would do that... I can see having separate trees ie. one for paternal ancestors and another for maternal, but to have multiple tree with the same information, just doesn't make sense to me... The problem with multiple sites is that "the little green leaf," keeps appearing when additions are made to my site...when clicking on the "leaf," in hopes of linking with a "new relative," all those multiple sites appear, and that very often have no bearing or matching with my individuals information... I feel like all I'm doing is complaining with negative comments, but to give "credit," when "credit," is due, there are some very helpful "search," results supplied on Ancestry.com... 3. Hi Don, Here's what I found on how to remove/delete an ancestry.com tree...I'm not sure by doing this procedure that a tree is completely removed from the ancestry.com system or if it only deletes/remove access by the person that originally created it up... May be Leo/Leonardo in our group would try this out, since he has at least 5 different trees on ancestry.com... Procedure: Log on to ancestry.com Next to the name of your tree you will find "Tree Pages," Mouse over "tree pages" >From "tree pages, select and Click on "Tree Settings" Your Tree Info now appears with the "Tree Name" and any "Tree Description" that you may have added... On the right side of that page you will see the following: Your home person in this tree Who you are in this tree Manage your tree You now have the option to "Export," your tree "Export your family tree data, as a GEDCOM file, to your computer. OR TO: "Delete your tree"... "Delete your tree from Ancestry. This includes deleting all people, photos, stories, etc. in your tree." WARNING! "This action cannot be undone!" Delete your tree (click on this wording to start the process). I'm not sure what appears next after clicking on "Delete your Tree." I didn't want to delete my tree, if this really works... 3. Hi Linda and Don, Here's how to go from Public to Private on Ancestry.com Log on to ancestry.com Log on to your site Next to your tree name click on Tree Pages >From Tree Pages Click on Tree Settings >From Tree Settings Click on Privacy Settings You now have the option of Clicking on Private Tree to make your tree Private In the Private Tree Box, you also have the option of preventing your tree from being found in the search index... I did not click on that option...I wanted people to be able to contact me, and then I would make the decision whether or not to allow them to view my tree. Note: although your tree will instantly become private, it usually takes about a week or more to be reflected in the search index... 3. I never added  my family to Ancestry I added it to Rootsweb but since Ancestry bought Rootsweb.... When I uploaded my tree I had the option of either making it public or having people contact me for information with no option to download. That is what I selected. I have found though that a couple of people have gone to the extreme of copying some of the branches in my tree and adding them to their database when they have no relatioship whatsoever to my branches. I know that because I contacted them. When it comes to pulling the tree off the site unless if Ancestry has specifically mentioned that once you upload it to their site it becomes their property then you should have the option to remove it. I do no longer subscribe to Ancestry so I don't have an answer to that question.   Take care     Luis Beal "Not to know what happened before we were born is to remain perpetually a child. For what is the worth of a human life unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors." Cruz, Madeira...it's possible that there's a link with your family... Thank you for the additional information supplied in your last posting. You asked if "does this make sense to you," yes it does, but only you can answer what you're truly trying to establish... It may prove difficult in locating the descendants of your husband's uncles (Manuel Jr. & Antonio). >From this point on if you're only interested in locating family members in the USA, then you will need to start with your husband's uncles/aunts looking for death records either on line (using FamilySearch.org - or any of the other source that may be fee based). Post to as many of the online message/boards, or even creating one for the surname Soares if there isn't already one... I did locate a couple that may be Soares family members, but without actually seeing additional records it's not possible to establish if they are your husband's family... Now if your interested in tracing your husband's Portuguese roots in Santa Cruz, Madeira, there are records online (or again through the film service of the Mormon Church) that can be ordered and viewed... The information so far is the following: John Ernest Soares (indexed as Seares) b. 16 Aug 1939 Jefferson, Tx parents John Seares and Ruby Mae Landry...(I'm assuming this is your husband/and his parents...correct me if I'm wrong... John Seares/Soares b. abt 1908 S. Cruz Madeira son of Manuel Soares b.abt 1879 S. Cruz m.1904 S. Cruz to Rosa Alves b. abt 1873 S.Cruz. Manuel Soares(Sr.) son of Antonio Soares and Doria da Camara.(Antonio and Doria married 1868 S. Cruz) Rosa Alves daughter of Manuel Alves and Juliana de Freitas (Manuel and Juliana married 1863 S. Cruz)... These records can be ordered from the Madeira Archives...it's possible that Manuel Alves and Juliana de Freitas' marriage record will name their parents...giving you still another generation of ancestors...If you need help in how to order from the Madeira Archives just let me/us know... These records may also be on film, that can be obtained from your local Mormon Church Family History Centers...Check out their website at - www.familysearch.org for a family history center nearest your home...as well as the film numbers for the Santa Cruz, Madeira parish... And it's possible that other members on this list are researching their ancestors/relatives in the Santa Cruz, Madeira area and can add additional researching sources... Here's some possibilities for additional follow-up to establish if they are related to your husband... John SOARES (Father of your husband) Birth Date: 9 Apr 1908 Death Date: 6 Feb 1993 Social Security Number: 454-10-0032 State or Territory Where Number Was Issued: Texas Death Residence Localities ZIP Code: 77662 Localities: Lakeview, Orange, Texas North Vidor, Orange, Texas Pine Forest, Orange, Texas Rose City, Orange, Texas Vidor, Orange, Texas Possible record for Anthony Soares (brother of Joao/John and Manuel Jr.)FamilySearch.org 4. 1. Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Testing/ Alves Soares/ Santa Cruz, Madeira
    2. Pat Corbera
    3. Carolyn and Cece, List Members, Cece with the surname of Camara from S. Cruz, Madeira...it's possible that there's a link with your family... His older sister was born in Cambridge, Ma. in 1929, the other 5 children were born in Texas and Lousiana. the last time they heard from his fathers family they were in New Bedford. I believe one of his uncles Manuel Jr. died in a TB hospital. at least one of them was in the service not sure which one. His dad did not talk of his family much. not sure that he could speak too good in English. He did speak several other languages he learned aboard ships. He died in 1993. Does any of this make sense to you? Thank you for this information maybe we can track down any of his family that is left. 1. Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Testing/ Alves Soares/ Santa Cruz, Madeira
    2. Cece Camara
    3. Pat/Carolyn, I've been reading these posts with interest as we do have Camara, Freitas and Alves from Santa Cruz...problem is I've checked my database and so far nothing is a match...may need to go back another couple of generations to find one. I'll keep watching the thread Carolyn. My father was born in Santa Cruz in 1905...problem is our Camara name only goes back 2 generations before my Dad as his grandfather was an orphan given that name (as was common practice at that time). Now my Freitas goes way back...and Alves are current day cousins still living in Santa Cruz (actually Alves Ferro is the full & current name). Cece Soccer 4 All | Lacrosse 4 All Headquarters 1306 FM 1092 ste 105 | Missouri City, TX 77459 tel: 281.499.6665 x-402| fax: 281.499.9199 | email: cece@soccer4all.com -----Original Message----- From: prt-madeira-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:prt-madeira-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Pat Corbera Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2011 3:29 PM To: prt-madeira@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Testing/ Alves Soares/ Santa Cruz, Madeira Carolyn and Cece, List Members, Cece with the surname of Camara from S. Cruz, Madeira...it's possible that there's a link with your family... 2. Carolyn S.
    3. Thanks again Pat, My husband John Ernest was born in Texas in 1939. 3. Hi Prima Pat, It seems it's about time for you to turn into a professional genealogist ; -) There are some more in this list who can perfectly consider opening a new business...at least as a part-time (rewarded) activity. 1. Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Testing/ Alves Soares/ Santa Cruz, Madeira
    2. Pat Corbera
    3. Hi Carolyn, Here' some additional information... Then it's possible that the passport record for a Manuel Soares from Santa Cruz is this one, with a 1911 date. This date is 8 years before the passport dates for Rosa and the children... Though it's possible that Manuel made trips back to Madeira in this 8 yr. time span... All his children would have been born by this 1911 date...so it's possible... This passport tells us the following: (1) Gives us his name, possible year of birth/bapt...he was 32 in 1911 - the names of his parents - that this is his first departure, and that the state civil records listed him as being married.
