    3. Hi Janette, I've posted a message on another list group that I participate in, hoping that someone on that group will supply source information. I've checked Noronha's work and didn't see the "Gois de Mendonca titulo listed... also check Genea Portugal (Sapo), there's a couple of individuals listed with Goes and Mendonca in their surnames, but I was unable to access the paid portion of that site for source information. Have you checked the publication that I transferred to you last summer? to be continued: Pat Silva Corbera Janette Chun <janettechun@shaw.ca> wrote: Hi Pat, Thank you for following up. For example, on page 420 of the Calacas Mideiros book, under Joao Maria Telo (listed top left-hand column) there is reference to this 'to de Gois de Mendonça. I would like to know what/where this information is. There are several references to this throughout the pages I have. I've tried the archive and they suspect it references Luiz Peter Clode's unfinished book. 3. Canhas is a parish in Ponta do Sol. It is just north of the village. I suspect you can get some detailed info from their website at www.cm-pontadosol.com Sitio is a neighbourhood. Levada is a small water channel. The south of Madeira would not be able to have sustainable agriculture if it weren't for the levadas which bring water from the north. That was one of our people's greatest achievements (among others). Cova could refer to a small valley or something surrounded. In Madeira it also means a cemetery plot or a hole in the ground. Today, these places can still be identified, normally by older people. In the old days, outside of Funchal, there were a few street names. In village centers such as in Machico, Santa Cruz or Porto Santo there were some street names. Obviously today that has changed. Good luck on a detailed map! 1. Re: [PT-MADEIRA] Archivo Regional da Madeira website
    2. I just found two of my ancestors in the passport section that went to Sao Paulo, Brazil and Santos, Brazil. I never knew this, now I need to find out if they died in Brazil or came back to Madeira. Does anyone know if there is a way to find arrivals into Brazil? 2. Hello all, I don't know when this was done but the Archivo Regional da Madeira website has been updated. The Bases de Dados now includes Passports and Baptims. It previously only had the Marriages. In the baptism section it actually gives the date of the baptism, marriages just the year. Here is the link for anyone interested. _http://62.48.223.202/homepage.php?lang=0_ (http://62.48.223.202/homepage.php?lang=0) Also, is anyone out there researching Freitas from Sao Martinho, Madeira? I have recently added quite a bit more information to my tree and would love to try and connect with any cousins out there...
