Mr. John Smith Pennington, age 70, of Creston, died Monday night at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2003 at 11:00 am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ralph Winters and Rev. Wayne Roark. Burial will follow in the Osborne Cemetery in Creston, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Pennington was born in Ashe County on Monday, April 10, 1933 to Kirby and Lula Jones Pennington. He worked as a Lineman for an electrical company. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelene King. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Patrick Pennington, of the home; two sons, Garvey Pennington and wife, Marsha, of West Jefferson and Jerry Pennington, of Lenoir; two daughters, Naomi Persinger, of Lenoir and Kathy Howell, of Millers Creek; four brothers, Raymond Pennington, Oscar Pennington and Joe Pennington, all of Creston and Junior Pennington, of Mountain City, TN; three sisters, Goldie Price, of Lenoir, Margaret Broomell, of Oxford, PA and Irene Fremuth, of Cicero, IL; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
