    3. Hi Fred, The front page of the newspaper was dated Jan. 31, 1891 and the column spoke of the 30th. I understand there were two attempts to get this thing off the ground. The day before, the battery would not hold up for the demonstration. The propelling and steering ship tested today is only a thirty-foot model, made of oiled silk and the practicability of using aluminum which was to be the material of which the full -sized ships will be built has to be shown. > The car which carries the passenger was not attached today and the ship floated in the air and was propelled by a wheel like that of a propeller, the motive power coming from storage batteries on the floor, attached by a light wire. The rudders being set at different angles, the ship traveled in a satisfactory manner around the exposition building. The speed attained was not great, but the inventor is sanguine of much better results with a satisfactory battery." > Does anyone know what family his Gentleman belongs? > > Rene'e Davis > ARD, Family Groups > PRA - Group 9 > Pennington Research Association, Inc. > www.penningtonresearch.org > > > ==== PENNINGTON Mailing List ==== > Threaded archives can be found at > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/pennington > or for a search engine try > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > > > Jan 30 is not enough to go on for a date.
