Hello Everyone, Those of you who have contacted me and have been signed up for the My Family site - I hope you are enjoying yourself! Those of you who haven't contacted me - what are you waiting for??? I thought I would answer a few questions in general for everyone so you might understand better what is going on. Barbara Pennington and Gene Pennington sent me a spreadsheet of everyone who has paid their dues. I filtered out those who had email addresses and sent each of those who were up to date a message inviting them to the website and asking them to agree to some Terms and Conditions before they were allowed to join up. So that is how I started. I have gone in and added each person who has replied and gave them Guest Rights so they are allowed to browse to their heart's content but can't change the data. I am keeping track of those who have contacted me on the same spread sheet! Back to the My Family site - some of you want to know where the JFMF database is. If you go down the page, you will find something that says family trees. Click on All Family Tree's and you will see all of the gedcoms that have been uploaded. To look at one of the gedcoms you would click on the link and it would open up with a window on top of your browser. This is a browser window - if you have a Pop - Up blocker and it is coming up, try holding your Ctrl key when you click on the link. Most of the gedcoms will show up on your screen as a pedigree. This isn't really the easiest method to see all of the good stuff. Play around a bit and look at the toolbar items and menu items. You will probably see something that will show you the gedcom in Family View, Pedigree, or Family Story. I prefer Family Story myself - it is much easier to see a bigger picture. Go and check out your line - is everything correct, up to date, etc. Do you have data that you can provide? Please make sure you send it to your Family Group Leader. You might want to share it on the PRA newslist as well. Remember that this newslist is a wonderful resource. Everything that gets posted to the newslist is part of the archives. As a member, you can search the archives and sometimes find some wonderful information. Please keep looking and exploring. If you find some interesting info, or you want to share a point of view or idea - post it to the newslist. The DNA project is a wonderful resource and we hope that it will give us a lot of information, but it can't take the place of good old fashion research. It has been pointed out that the DNA test does us females little good unless we can rope some poor unsuspecting male relative in getting tested. We need to still do the research and share our ideas.
