Dear Gene and listmembers, I received a message last nite that had Gene's address and an attachment. Thinking it was actually from Gene and might be important, I opened the attachment and my Norton's shot up and said I was infected with a worm. This was a particularly difficult worm to get rid of and I couldn't, so my husband worked on it for at least an hour this afternoon and finally found the way to get rid of it and determine that my system is clean now. He scanned several times and it came up clean. I had instructed Norton's to stop the worm from sending itself out via messages purportedly sent from me. Still, in that short time, apparently it sent itself to a lot of people I didn't send messages to. When I checked my email tonite, I had 120 messages and at least 25 of these were telling me that the messages had been stopped due to being infected by a virus. Everyone, PLEASE RUN SCANS and make sure your virus list is current. I can't say for sure if anyone else got an infected message before I was able to instruct Norton's to prevent the worm from resending itself. I don't keep an address list so I'm not sure where it got the addresses. It may have been through some of my saved messages. Some of the blocked messages had these address beginnings: kathpenn [email protected] [email protected] costas [email protected] [email protected] persiank mclnva23.covad I think the lists have filters, but just want to make sure no one else gets this malicious worm if I can.
