    2. Mike you can also subscribe to the PRA list, if you want: Send an email to: _PRA@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:PRA@rootsweb.com) and in the subject line write SUBSCRIBE. Then send. Yes, I will be happy to forward this to the LIST. Hi Nell, I was wondering if you could pass this on to the Pennington Research Assc. Group to see if anyone may have a link here? Harrell, I thought I would cc this to you as well to see if it helps? Thank You Mike Pennington I am sending this to you and asking you to check on the name of Lela or Lilly Brannon maiden name of Pennington who was our grandfathers sister who lived in Watongo, Oklahoma: She also had a daughter named Lee Ann in Spencer Oklahoma. Just wondered if anyone may have any information on Alonzo's family tree? Mike Pennington Hi Julie and the rest of the Pennington Clan. I have attached a photo and a newspaper clipping but depending on your photo program it may not be large enough to read. I will try to write out what it says so you can read it here. The basic information that I have is that our grandfather was Alonzo Charles Pennington born in 1855 or 1859 possibly in Jackson County Mississippi and died in 1936 in Ringling, Oklahoma. He was either buried at Crow cemetery or Graham, Oklahoma? There is some question as to him being married to a Ella Shaw who may be buried in Muskogee, Oklahoma or a lady by the name of Susan Fowler/Gross and or now the name of Caroline? Who knows he may have been married to more than one woman over the years. I think Ella Shaw was from Arkansas but not sure? Alonzo also went by the initials of A.C. Pennington and was a minister in Marshall County, (Madill) Oklahoma and is listed in book 1 page 1 with the credentials in the Johnston (Madill) County Records. He was a minister for 46 years. Rumor was that he was also possibly a Deputy Sheriff but not verified. Alonzo's father and two brothers served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. They moved to Canton Texas after the war and then in 1905 to the Woodville Indian Territory-Oklahoma. This would be Marshall County (Madill, Oklahoma) He married Susan F. Fowler in 1879. The article said he was 80 years old and lived with one of his sons J.B. Pennington the past 15 years who taught school in Carter county? Other members of the family who was with him when he died was W.C. (William Carlton Pennington) & W.H.(Walter Henry Pennington my grandfather), one sister at this time but could have been more? Her name was Lelia Brannon of Watonga, Oklahoma who I believe is Alonzo's daughter. He and Susan Fowler had 4 sons and one daughter. His wife, one son, brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Children: 1. J.B. Pennington 12-8-1888 2. Sid or Ed Pennington I believe his name was Sid or Sidney which my dads name was Sidney Franklin Pennington his nickname may have been Ed. 3. Lilly or Lela (could be Lelia Brannon) who may have had a daughter by the name of Lea Ann in Spencer, Oklahoma. 4. Willie Pennington (William Carlton) 5. Walter Henry Pennington 2-19-1891 to 3-14-1968 (our grandfather) who married Florence Helen Wilkins 1-2-1899 (our grandmother) who died in 11-5-55. She was born in Madill (Johnson County). Note Madill was where Alonzo was a minister and I think not far from Van Sant, Texas? Other information on our side of the family from Walter down I have some but will not go into it at this time for us to figure out the other end of this tree. A lot of the information was taken from the news clipping and again was probably what information the family had at the time. How many times he was married and or other information is sketchy to say the least. Julie, you may be interested in this for sure: Mr. Gill says he thinks he located info on my great grandfather Alonzo Pennington in Texas and Oklahoma. He said he found him first as a minister performing marriages in 1903 in Henderson County Texas and later in Marshall County, Oklahoma in 1914? He was recorded as A.C. Pennington at the time. In the 1880 census of Texas he found him and two brothers living in Van Sandt County Texas. "he went by Lonzo in this census and was newly married but not to Susan Fowler." The census said his wife's name was "Caroline". Mr. Gill also said that the census showed that he and his two brothers were born in Mississippi and that his parents were born in Alabama? He said he also found some marriage license in Van Sandt County showing Alonzo Pennington married to E. C. Samples on April 29, 1877. He found that A.C. Pennington married S.F. Fowler on May 17, 1884. "Alonzo was married before he married to Sarah. E. Caroline Samples Pennington may have died in childbirth." "Quote Mr. Gill said the information obtained at the time of death and in the obituary, though helpful, undoubtedly did not know all the facts?" 3. PRA, There was someone wanting information on Pennington Native Americans. This was posted before in the PRA.
