===================================================================== Source: MOMILLER@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOMILLER] Pennington/Walls - obituary Obituary: The Miller County Autogram, Thursday, April 30, 1914 Samuel Pennington was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, May 16, 1828, and married to Martha Walls in Kentucky June 8, 1848, and moved to Miller County in 1850 and has resided here in the main ever since. When the Civil War came on he lived some 8 miles south of Brumley, and was among the first to enlist in the Union Army in the Osage Regt. Commanded by Col. J. M. McClurg (who afterward became Gov.). He was in the service in various commands until the close of the war. His wife joined the Baptist Church in 1855 and remained a faithful member until her death in June 1904. He joined the church in 1866. They had born to them 14 children, eight boys and six girls, and all lived to be about grown. He is a pensioner and a member of Lt. Wm. Hawkins Post No. 425 G.A.R. Uncle Sam was noted for honesty and integrity in the payment of all his debts. He was energetic and fearless in the defence of his convictions of the right as he saw it. In his long life, passing through the Civil War period he met with many hardships and many trials, and in the care and raising of so large a family had many heartaches but he manfully met every duty as it came to him and acquitted himself with credit. He leaves a second wife in very poor health who has watched faithfully over him during his long illness and death. Five years ago he requested that I preach his funeral sermon and write a short history of his life and with the help of Bro. J.M. Hawkins this I have done. His remains were laid to rest in the Gott Cemetery on Thursday, 16th, 1914, at 2 p.m. J. C. Hello Mike, I always thought that my Paul of Sunbrick line went on back to Sir Isaac Pennington until I was informed differently several years ago by Dr. R.P. Bailey. I still have Sir Isaac's line in my files, but have disconnected it from Paul's. I guess we'll have to wait for research to be done before we can connect them. Dora Lee - Hi! My name is Mike Pennington and I just recently became Group Leader of Group 18, Sir Isaac Pennington, which I know a lot about. However, I think I am part of Group 3 which is Paul of Sunbreak. I do believe there is some connection between these two groups as well. In following my Beeson line back to Lancaster, England, I find that Edward Beeson b. 1660 md. Rachel Pennington b. abt 1656 in Lancaster, Eng. They md 1682, and both died in Pennsylvania. Since my "Paul of Sunbrick" line goes back into Lancashire, I imagine she is from that line, but I don't know who her parents are. My Paul of Sunbrick line is on my mother's side of the family, and the Beeson/Rachel Pennington is on my father's. Would like to merge them, if possible. DoraLee Hatley

Gene Pennington noticed a reference to my new blog in the NGS Newsmagazine and suggested that I post a message to this list with more information. About once a week I make a new posting to "The Internet Guy" blog on Roots Television www.rootstelevision.com <http://www.rootstelevision.com/> . I cover online genealogy and topics covered so far include military records, Canadian vital records indexes, obituaries and gravestone transcriptions. You can sign up to get new postings by e-mail so you don't have to keep checking back on the site. My Web site, www.onelibrary.com <http://www.onelibrary.com/> , has reports on my family history, including the Pennington family. The site also has guides to online research, including a list of free databases and a guide to using library catalogs. There's also information on my book, "Plugging Into Your Past: How to Find Real Family History Records Online" (Family Tree Books, $19.99). I also write for several genealogy magazines available by subscription and on newsstands: Family Tree Magazine www.familytreemagazine.com <http://www.familytreemagazine.com/> I have three articles in the February 2007 issue. Topics covered include the One-Step Web Pages http://stevemorse.org <http://stevemorse.org/> , Family Tree Maker 16 and guidelines for sharing electronic files. Family Chronicle www.familychronicle.com <http://www.familychronicle.com/> The February issue has my article on surname origins. Internet Genealogy www.internet-genealogy.com <http://www.internet-genealogy.com/> My case study on researching Irish Famine emigrants will probably appear in the June/July issue. My case study on researching the Loyalist William Pennington of England and North Carolina appeared in the May 2006 issue. So, I've been busy writing. I hope you find my book and articles useful as you research your Pennington family history online. I also do some public speaking and will be giving presentations at these events: The BYU Computerized Genealogy Conference, Provo, UT, March 16-17, http://ce.byu.edu/cw/cwcompu/ My topics are: - A Beginner's Guide to Online Genealogy - From the Revolutionary War to Vietnam: Military Records Online - British Intelligence: Smart Strategies for Tracking Down English, Scottish and Welsh Ancestors - On, Canada Online! Greetings to all: I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to the group. I will be the new Group Leader for Group 10. My name is Jim Lantz 70 yrs old Born in Indiana, but living in Illinois most of my life. My closest Pennington ancestor was Rhoda Ann Pennington, born 19 May 1861, In Washington County Indiana. She was my great grand mother on my father's side. I do have a pretty extensive file on the Grp. 10 Penningtons and allied families. If I can be of assistance to anyone, please don't hesitate to ask. My email is jimlantz@comcast.net In the meantime, I do have a request and a challenge for the group. I have some observations and concerns about some of our posted Grp. 10 ancestors. I would certainly like your input and suggestions for correcting these problems. These are all Group 10 ancestors. I don't believe Joseph W Kidd (b. ABT 1822) was not a child of Joseph Kidd and Sarah (Sally) Pennington Sarah Adams (b. 20 Jun 1769) in Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co., VA I seriously doubt that Sarah was 65 when child was born. and that she is younger than her mother David Pennington (b.Abt 1717) MARRIED TO Lydia He would have been 2 years older than his father Moses Pennington (b.abt 1715) James Pennington (b. 25 July 1752), married to Rachel Vick (b. 14 Feb. 1755). We show a wedding date of 8 Jun 1780. This date would have been 7 years before the birth of her son John Thomas Pennington (b. 11 July 1777 )
Dear List, Tye Pennington is in our little town of Murfreesboro,AR doing a wonderful thing for a family.Could someone please tell me what group he is in without a big turn the house up mess? I could find it but it would take a while. I think the public will be allowed in maybe today or tomorrow. I am sending the link to the project Extreme Make Over is doing. www.realsteelhomes.net/extreme I think they said this home would be ready by Sunday show. Thanks,Peggy Pennington
Peggy: I do not know which Group Ty Pennington belongs with. Over the years I've sent him several messages asking him to share his family history with the PRA but he has never replied. I guess it's a privacy concern he has. Same is true for Chad Pennington. Neither of them have ever replied to any of my e-mail messages over the years. If you make contact with him, please tell him about the PRA and ask him to contact us and share his family history. We do have some information about him on our "News Makers" web page at --> http://www.penningtonresearch.org/resources/history/newsmakers.htm . I just went to his website at --> http://www.typenningtonstyle.com/ and sent him another e-mail. If any of you have a moment, you may want to send him a message and invite him to visit our website and learn more about the PRA. It is a great pleasure for me to announce the appointment of Jim Lantz (jimlantz@comcast.net) as the new Group Leader for Group 10. Jim has been a Member of the PRA for a few years and is looking forward to helping Group 10 Members. Jim says he is willing to be the Group 10 Leader until we can find a permanent Leader. In his offer to help, Jim told me he has an extensive file on most of the Group 10 descendents and is looking forward to helping. I know you all join me in welcoming Jim as the Group Leader for Group 10 and that he can count on you for any help he may need.
