    3. I recently took a subscription for the "Smithsonian" magazine. In the April 2007 issue there is a very good article on "Digitizing the Hanging Court". The Old Bailey was the venue for more than 100,000 criminal trials between 1674 and 1834, including all death penalty cases in the City of London and the County of Middlesex, England. Old Bailey was built in 1539 next to Newgate Prison, the justice hall was nicknamed after its address on Old Bailey St. To fund this project $510,000 was granted from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and $680,000 granted from the New Opportunites Fund. The Universities of Sheffield and Hertfordshire contributed staff, equipment and staff and they have been working on this project since 1999 and recently finished. This was no small undertaking. The website is located at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/ and its *free*. There are 57 Pennington's mentioned and 2 Penington's. I did not check for any other spellings. This is a very, very interesting website for those who are interested. I highly recommend the "Smithsonian" magazine too. -- Melinda Pennington Group Leader of 6 Membership Chair ARD - Family Groups

Jan 2001" Who is the author of this? Is this Absalom Pennington the one who lived in Louisiana? We are still working hard to determine the parents of our Absalom Pennington 1752-1838. We have accumulated every Absalom Pennington court record, deed, etc extant, and with careful analysis have determined Benajah Pennington Sr is the only candidate that fits what we know. We are now looking for some kind of evidence to support this hypothesis. Do you know of any? Thanks, LaRae

    1. [PRA] Pedigrees CD on its way
    2. Colleen Blizard
    3. Hi Folks, The printer just informed me that he mailed our Pedigrees Spring Issue CD last Thursday, April 19th. So, we should be seeing them soon! Now is the time to start working on articles and submitting them for our next issue. We are working on an updated schedule for our deadlines, but I expect the deadline for article submission to be mid-August. I'll send an email once the dates are finalized. Our issues are now published on CD, so that gives us more freedom to include more photos and other graphics in our issues. As you can see when you look at our Spring issue, Group 6 has submitted a photo album. Let's all follow that lead and submit a few photos from each group for our future issues. You will see a few maps that Gene submitted and you'll see research that both Jim and Gene have submitted. There are all great things to submit for our future issues. If you have any questions, please let me know. There is a lot more information and the image quality is immensely improved. There are a lot of possibilities that will open up for everyone. 1. [PRA] RESIGNATION OF GROUP LEADER AND APPOINTMENT OF NEW GROUP LEADER FOR GROUP 30
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. It is with pleasure for me to announce the appointment of the new Group Leader for Group 30, Marye E. Steckley. Marye, a member of Group 30, has been a PRA member since 2005. Marye comes highly recommended for the job from the past Group 30 Leader and PRA President, Jim Pennington. She has extensive knowledge of the Pennington family members of Group 30 and is currently working closely with family members to get an accurate detailed family history. She will soon be creating a new Group 30 website in the next coming weeks. I know you all join me in wishing Marye the best in her new assignment and that she can count on all of us to help. We owe a great big "thank you" to Jim Pennington for being the Group Leader for Group 30 these past few months. He really helped to get the research moving for Group 30 and he has let Marye know that she can count on him for any help with Group 30. While I'm usually sad to see a Group Leader resign, in this case it's a good thing. Jim will remain as the Group Leader for Group 31 so now he can spend more of his energy on Group 31 and the President's job. 2. Melinda Pennington
    3. Dear Marie, I caught your email message on the PRA email list and wanted to let you know that I am willing to help you with your problems, if I can. I was concerned with your comment of being disappointed with the PRA and I would like to resolve some of your issues. I serve as the Asst. Research Director of the Family Groups, as well as Group Leader of 6 and Membership Chair for the PRA. Regarding Joanne Pennington, group leader of 29, she is one of those PRA volunteers who has suffered some personal setbacks and has had to spend more time on them than with the PRA tasks. Perhaps you and Joanne can get together on research in the future or I can help you with getting your information updated to the myfamily .com all members website. I wish we had a "helper" for each Group Leader who could step it and help when personal problems prevent the Group Leader from doing their job but we rarely find such volunteers. We've asked before for such volunteers but we've not had much success. Regarding Ayvonne Roach, she was the Research Director for a few years prior to John French. She and a couple of other PRA Members developed the idea of collecting family data/ged com files from Pennington researchers (not just PRA Members). I think she did have some material sent to her and when she became the PRA President, John French became the Research Director and he carried on with the project and did all the data entry into the master database. My understanding was that Ayvonne gave all the material she had collected to John French. Some of the books and family group reports that were in John's material when they were sent to Gene, were from Ayvonne and some are for sale as publications. Perhaps we can help you get your lineage information posted to the group 29 family files on myfamily website. As a member of PRA, you also have access to this site and you have the ability to upload this information to the myfamily. com website but we can also help get this updated for you. I hope this may answer or help some of your current concerns. It saddens me to know that a PRA member is not satisfied or unhappy with the PRA organization. Please let me know if I can help in anyway. You can also email me privately at mgp383 @ gmail . com Melinda Pennington On 4/17/07, MARIE HUMES <mphumes@prodigy.net> wrote: > > Joanne, > > I thought this was another but I decided to try. 3. Joanne, I thought this was another but I decided to try. Sorry to hear of you mother's illness. I know how time that can be. I am so disappointed with PRA as I have not been able to get my line added into the Grp 29 info of Thomas. It only mentions Walter Pennington and they seem to have ignored ALL the info we sent--even on down to MY family. I know that they received it because Yvone Roach sent me a note about the quantity and the number of generations. There does not seem to be any interest in getting info added. We probably will not continue in it as Ilene is not able to help me any more and has no interest. Has John Bruno given up research, also. Regards to your family. 1. [PRA] Group #32 Obit
    2. Peggy Pennington
    3. I talked on the phone with this lady last Wednesday about her Grandparents name and she dies today.I had never met her but I told her I was coming to Sapulpa and was coming to see her and she said she was looking forward to that. Peggy Pennington Group#32 Group Leadrer #2 and #24 This is from the the April 2,2007 Sapulpa Daily Herald Newspaper Sapulpa OK. Josie Mae Williams Josie Mae Williams left her loved ones and her pain behind on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at home at the age of 83. Josie was born to William and Rachel Pennington Dec. 25, 1923, in Sapulpa. On May 12, 1942, she married Mirrell Williams from Kellyville. They loved each other with devotion for 65 years. Those 65 years saw a life of love, some heartache and lots of happiness. Mirrell's work in oil exploration took them to most of the U.S. and overseas. They met and worked with so many people that all seemed to become friends. They enjoyed being able to see so many different places and things and way of life. The stories there are to tell! "Jo," as everyone called her, was a woman that loved unconditionally -- that love -- was returned ten-fold. Children of friends, co-workers and relatives, at first meeting were naturally drawn to her. To most she was forever more "Mama Jo" or "Nanny" bestowed on her by her granddaughter. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed sewing with a passion. She loved the "art" group that met and painted in her home and still enjoyed them meeting there every Monday evening even though she no longer could paint. The get together with the "girls" was so important to her and to them. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She never complained. If you ask her how she was doing, she always said, "Just Fine." A truly wonderful, kind and loving woman that will be missed by all, but so much more by her loved ones. A hole that will never mend. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Billie Frank and Larry Joe; brothers Otis Pennington, Paul Pennington; sisters Mabel Williams, Pearl Townsend, Opal Reeves, Rachel Whisenhunt and Pauline Pennington. She is survived by her husband Mirrell; daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Gary Ray and granddaughter Crista Burnett; brother-in-law and wife Frank and Ellie Williams of Woodland Wash.; sisters-in-law Lavaughn Galbraith of Woodland, Wash., Faye Pringle of Port Angeles, Wash., and Phyllis Joel of Puyallup, Wash.; a special grandniece who always called her "Nanny", Ryan Berryhill; numerous nieces and nephews and friends; and her special cousins Bill and Virginia Morris and John Morris. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Green Hill Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. The family has entrusted the care of the services to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home.

    1. [PRA] NOMINATIONS FOR PRA HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. The PRA benefits from having a wonderful group of volunteers! We are very fortunate that we have such a great group of Pennington "cousins" who care about the PRA and want to help see us carry on this wonderful tradition. Our volunteers work very hard to help ensure the PRA continues to improve and to meet it's stated goals and objectives. One of the few ways we have to recognize outstanding volunteers is to award them with an Honorary Membership. The PRA Bylaws, Article II, Section 2.04 describes the process for awarding Honorary membership. It says; "From time to time, the Board may recognize outstanding contributions to the field of genealogical research by bestowing an Honorary Membership to such a person. No dues shall be charged but such members shall have all of the same rights and privileges, as does an active member." There are many things which can be viewed as "outstanding contributions" when a volunteer works on behalf of the PRA. In my opinion, the words "... outstanding contributions to the field of genealogical research ..." can cover a wide range of things. For example, in the past, the Board has recognized volunteers for their many years of hard work on behalf of the PRA and for outstanding contributions that helped to further the mission of the PRA. If you would like to nominate a PRA member to be recognized as one of our Honorary Members, please let me know soon. Please include a couple of short paragraphs describing why you would like to see your nominee be awarded an Honorary Membership.
