Thank you, I had the group in my personal database from research I've done over the last few years but did not have a group for them. I'll forward this on to the gentleman and I've given him the name of the researcher that sent the info to the Pedigrees. He doesn't live very far from me and we will visit soon so I can suggest he join PRA. His branch is Scott Pennington and he can supply some more generations to the mix. I just received a call from a descendant of Corbin Lane Pennington's son, Scott with some corrections. These corrections are from the Pennington Pedigrees Vol 38 No 1. The initial correction is for page 81 on Scott's son, "Mannie M. Pennington" who was the father of the gentleman that called (I'll send details later). Apparently, to the son's recollection his father was never known as Mannie (probably a childhood nickname off of census). The correct name was Raymond Manuel Pennington (R. M.) and he was born Dec 6 1900 (not June 6, 1900) in Woodson, Texas. He died Mar 13 1983 in Dallas, Texas. His spouse was Thelma Grace Brown. Apparently the wife of Scott Pennington, Theodocia Ernestine Allison, was called Docie. Can someone let me know what group Corbin Lane Pennington belongs to so I can communicate better with this particular query? In my own database, I have him as the son of Corban Pennington (abt 1804); grandson of Asa Pennington (abt 1776). All of this family was in Texas very early. Thanks Shirley Erickson Group 11 leader PO Box 456 Covington, Texas 76636 sane1@alltel.net

What a wonderful idea ! Can we also do an article or report on the Pennington ladies who were called "Rosie's" I believe during WW II ? The ladies who helped build the bombers and other supply planes/equipment while the men were off serving in the war. There were 3 of these ladies sitting in my DAR meeting this week (oddly, one is related to a NJ Pennington - she doesn't know her group #) and we got on this subject so I find it odd that Gene now brings up honoring those who served since they are related subjects. The group 6 "photo album" did include one WW II serviceman in the newest CD issue. Father of Wanda Gail Pennington-Parker and his name was Clyde Wayne Pennington. Are there anymore that cousins can submit? I might be able to pull a few more WW II service photo's out of my hat but not many. This sort of goes against the future article that Peggy Pennington (Group Leader 2 - 24) and I have been talking about putting together "Bad Boy Pennington's" which will show penitentary mug shots and rap sheets. I guess it could be a Heroes vs. Thug's, kind of thing. (just teasing, of course) ;o) Again, great idea ! Carmen's recent posting to this list reminded me that one of the projects I want to work on in the future is to publish in the Pennington Pedigrees, information about any Pennington who served in WWII. This will include, but not be limited to, military service record, personal family history (descendants & ancestors), photographs, memorabilia, personal stories of service and/or action, and similar related items. Many of us have parents who served in WWII and we've collected stories, photographs and memorabilia over the years. Many of these members of "The Greatest Generation" are still with us and would love to share their stores - all we have to do is ask. This project is just starting to take shape so most of the details have not been nailed down yet. To protect individuals' privacy, the information will NOT include any personal information on any living persons nor will it include social security or military identification numbers of any person included in the research. This does not restrict us from including information on living persons, it just means we won't publish personal information such as dates of birth, marriage, etc. and the same will be true for any of their descendants. Since we're now publishing the Pedigrees on a CD, we can include all kinds of things and we have lot's of ways to really make the article/s interesting and in some cases, interactive. Carmen's example of a website for her great uncle's military experience at --> www.sunsetters38bg.com can be included on the CD so readers can click on the website link and go directly to it. Wow! Depending on how many articles and how much material we collect, we may have to spread them out over several issues of the Pedigrees. When we're through publishing all the material, we can later produce a single CD with the information all on the one CD. Of course, like all the PRA's publications, the CD/s will be sent to the PRA Archives/Library where they will be maintained and placed on the Internet. Wow again! This is an open ended project at this time and I welcome your comments and suggestions. When I have enough to put more together, I'll work with Colleen Blizard, Editor, and the PRA Board to see where this idea can go. I'm personally excited about the project because I've been collecting information and photographs of my Grandfather and Dad for several years and I think it will great to share it with other Pennington researchers. I'm going to post a similar message to this on the PRA blog at --> http://praresearch.blogspot.com and include a couple of photographs as examples. Paul: Thank you for your positive comments and suggestions. Many PRA Members worked on this first issue on a CD to help make it a memorable one. Most of the credit goes to Colleen Blizard, Editor of the Pedigrees, who worked very hard to make our first issue of the Pennington Pedigrees on a CD very special. The various contributors of articles and material learned much from this first issue on a CD and I believe our Members will continue to see improvements as each successive CD is published. Our hope is that more PRA Members and Pennington researchers will send in their pictures, articles and other material to share with other researchers. The possibilities are almost unlimited and as each CD is published, we'll learn more. If anybody wants to share their pictures or other material or wants to submit an article or family history, please contact Colleen Blizard at Csblizard@aol.com. Gene Pennington (Group 7) Chairman Research Director Pennington Research Association, Inc. www.PenningtonResearch.org PRA Blog - http://praresearch.blogspot.com
Paul, Not only is the format fairly easy to read, but there are other advantages. When using Adobe Acrobat, you can quickly search through the material, by hitting either Ctrl F or going to Edit on the menu bar and hitting find. This is exciting because it will allow you to search through 100 plus pages in only minutes. It also opens up all kinds of possibilities for those who want to share information such as land documents, marriage licenses, or photos. Space is not going to be at a premium, the editor can include any and all of someone's article without worrying whether it will fit. I'm sure that during the next few issues, Colleen will learn a lot more about putting it together, and we will all learn how to utilize the Pedigree in a much more useful manor. I thought that getting away from a printed format was a mistake, but after looking at the results, I must admit I was wrong. I carried my laptop computer out to our screen room and read through the issue while enjoying the birds and the sweet smell of the viburnum hedge which is blooming here now. Those who worked on the CD did an outstanding job of formatting the material for viewing on a computer screen. There were even some color pictures and maps -- definitely a first in the 39-year history of the Pedigrees. A hint for those who have not used the Acrobat Reader program extensively: click the X to close the table of contents at the left, and then click on the View menu and then select the full screen display. That shows the page only, without all the distracting menus and such. Just press escape to get back to the regular screen. Scrolling a page at a time was easy with the PgUp or PgDn keys, but the up and down arrow keys work also, and were more comfortable to use in the lower right corner of the keyboard. By the way, you don't need the latest model computer to run the Acrobat Reader program. I was using a eight year old IBM ThinkPad 600, which has a 300 MHz Pentium II processor. It's a bit slow on internet surfing, but worked great for this. Congratulations and a big attaboy to all who worked on this first electronic edition of the Pedigrees for doing such a great job of adapting the content for reading on a computer. Paul A. Paul A. Deb, Thank you for your kind comments. The reunion is planned for July 2008 in Raleigh, NC. Jim Pennington will be hosting the reunion. It was supposed to be there this summer, but the NC archives are closed due to a remodel. All I can say that I hope the air conditioning works well. I'm sure it will be humid and hot. Glad your husband will enjoy the website. Don't hesitate to write Orland and ask questions...it would thrill him! Your explanation makes good sense and especially liked the link. My husband is a history buff and he will enjoy seeing the photos on your great uncle's site. Again I can't say enough about the kind people I've met thru PRA in recent months. Don't know when or where a reunion is planned but since I don't get out of state often may I suggest beautiful sunny Florida some spring. (Forget summer as that's hurricane season). Anyhow keep up the great work. Hi folks, Our printer is located in NH. I have not received my CD yet either. The CD's are shipped using media mail. It is a slower delivery time than first class mail. The CD's were mailed on Thursday, April 19th. I think media mail can take three to four weeks for delivery. Hi everyone, I posted the updated PRA Obituary files on the PRA My Family site today. You can see the files at http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=s <http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=s&htx=m&siteid=xKiKAQ> &htx=m&siteid=xKiKAQ under the file cabinet section. Due to the increase in obituaries in our database, there are now four PDF files containing the obituaries. The files contain 1240 obituaries, about 360 more obituaries than the files posted in August, 2006. Thank you to everyone who has submitted obituaries to the PRA!! I would like to send a special thank you to Melinda Pennington and Roy Don Howell for all of their submissions. Please continue to submit obituaries! Thanks so much, Colleen Blizard Pedigrees Editor Obituary Database Editor Pennington Research Association, Inc. www.PenningtonResearch.org <http://www.penningtonresearch.org/>

Marie & DoroLee, Blogs aren't all that complicated. As with many things, the terminology makes it a bit more complicated than it needs to be. RSS means "Really Simple Syndication" which means it is a format where information is frequently updated. Have you ever been to a website and they ask you for comments on the bottom and you write a message. You've written in a blog then. Blog means weblog. Make believe that you have a diary that is on the internet, people can come and comment on what you've written. Then other people can come and look at your comments...if they choose to, they can add their own comments. You can actually add RSS feeds to many email programs which will put the information much like an email message. Everyone used to get emailed newsletters or ezines...since spam has gotten so bad, many of the ezines have been blocked by spam blockers. Even if you wanted to receive the newsletter it is blocked. I would say that there are going to be some members that will choose not to participate. I'm used to doing things like web pages, email, and blogs because it is interest of mine and I'm fairly young. However, I would encourage you to embrace some of these new things. If you think that you are too old...then let me tell you about my great uncle. He will be 89 in October...he not only has his own web page, he has scanned over 1000 pictures from World War II from his bomber group and made CD's of the photos available for the rest of his fellow soldiers. He lets someone else take care of most of the administration of the web page - but he is still scanning newsletters and uploading them to the website. His younger sister who will be 87 in a month has scanned all of her photos and is working on her parent's albums and making copies for any of the family members who want them. She doesn't understand how anyone could get by without email. If you want to take a look at my uncle's website which is about the 38th Bomb Group which later became the basis for the Air Force...the website is at www.sunsetters38bg.com - Take a chance and check the blog out...it doesn't hurt to take a look!
