    2. Joyce Parkey
    3. Melinda: Here is another article I had found regarding these two people. It is very sad and with them starting a new marriage. There is a longer version that I had printed up for a Pennington genealogist friend of mine but I couldn't find it again. I'll try to put the longer version on for you today. Joyce Carter Parkey News President of Murray State College killed in accident TISHOMINGO - Dr. William D. Pennington, president of Murray State College, was killed in a car accident Oct. 13. Pennington and his wife, Marty, were traveling 5 miles west of the Indian Nation Turnpike near McAlester, Highway 270 at approximately 11:30 p.m. According to highway patrol reports, debris was covering the road and a car veered left of center, hitting Pennington's car head on. Injuries to the occupants of the other car were not disclosed. Dr. William D. Pennington was the 18th president of Murray State College. Prior to taking his position with the college in 2004, he served as dean and professor of history with Northwestern Oklahoma State University, on the Enid campus since 1997. Previously, he was the dean of the schools of humanities and social sciences on NWOSU's main campus in Alva. Before working for NWOSU, Dr. Pennington held administrative positions at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., University Center at Tusla, Tulsa Junior College (now known as Tulsa Community College), and William Woods College in Fulton, MO. Dr. Pennington is credited for creating the first comprehensive community education program in Oklahoma offering activities to five diverse public schools in the evenings and on weekends. While at Murray State College, Dr. Pennington was instrumental in creating legacies for the college. According to the MSC news release, his love and desire to restore the beauty, history and innovative progress of the college was a driving force of his administration. Pennington was instrumental in creating new facilities that would offer better opportunities for the students on both the Tishomingo and Ardmore campuses. An impassioned leader, Pennington desired every opinion of staff, faculty, students and community members to unite all in an effort to provide Murray State College with solid direction, officials said. He recently stated in his annual report completed at the end of last week, “Reflecting on this past year at Murray State College brings many wonderful memories and exciting thoughts about the future of this treasured college. Our student population continues to grow at the same time our diverse program offerings have been strengthened by tremendous efforts by our faculty and staff. Our progressive plans for creating an institutional environment that enhances our dedication by employees and students are in full motion. As one walks around campus this year, it is obvious that we all feel a certain attitude promoting the notion we are moving forward into our new century.” Pennington's commitment to serve his fellow man can be recognized outside of the campus in his leadership involvement as the President of the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce, Johnston County Industrial Authority Board, Vice President of the Greater Southwest Historical Museum in Ardmore, Rotary International, Lions Club, INCA Board of Directors, Southern Workforce Board, and the Chickasaw Regional Library. He had been an officer in the professional education association, Phi Delta Kappa, and served on the Board of the Oklahoma Historical Society, Tri-County Indian Nations Community Development Corporation, and the Johnston County Historical Society. Other involvements included Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League Board of Directors, Enid Community Development Support Association, and Enid Arts and Humanities Council, and Board member of the Western History Collection Associates at the University of Oklahoma. Pennington is a native Oklahoman who was born in Anadarko but raised in Duncan. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa where he majored in history and secondary education. He was granted a Parriott Fellowship which enabled him to further his higher education, earning his masters in history at the University of Tulsa and his Ph.D also in history from the University of Oklahoma. His major field of study at OU was the American West and Indian History. He studied under such noted historians as Arrell M. Gibson, Gilbert Fite, and Donald J. Berthrong. Pennington is a noted and published author and has presented numerous scholarly lectures on topics dealing with Native American and Oklahoma history at the local, state, and national conferences. Along with his professional lectures, he is also recognized for his portrayal of the 9th governor of Oklahoma, Alfalfa Bill Murray. His most recent portrayal was at the Alfalfa Bill Murray Symposium on campus for the descendants of the 9th governor. His love for performance and history spawned his establishment of the Chautauqua celebration held every June on campus. He recently married Dr. Marty Pedersen, East Central University professor, in his home on campus on July 7, 2007. Pennington is survived by his wife, son David and his daughters Martha Link and Mallory Roark. Funeral arrangements are pending. 3. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: RoyDon50@aol.com <RoyDon50@aol.com> Ada Evening News Pedersen, Pennington exchange vows TISHOMINGO — A centennial Oklahoma wedding celebration marked the marriage of Dr. Marty Pedersen and Dr. William Pennington. The new Mrs. Pennington is a professor in the College of Education at East Central University in Ada. Dr. Pennington is the president of Murray State College in Tishomingo. They were married in a small family ceremony at the Murray State College presidents' home July 7, 2007, at 7:07 p.m. The Rev. Chris Dodson, pastor of the Tishomingo United Methodist Church, officiated at the wedding. The bridegroom's great-nieces, Shelby and Delaney Pennington, were flower girls while the bridegroom's grandsons, Jensen and Jonah Link, were ring bearers. A reception followed the ceremony in the Chickasaw pocket park in downtown Tishomingo. The ladies of the Johnston County Historical Society hosted the reception from the picturesque gazebo at the park. Because of Pennington's specialization in Oklahoma history, the bride and bridegroom were in turn-of-the-century dress, as were many of the guests. Country western singers Johnny Shackleford and Roy Rodgers entertained throughout the evening. Michael Henthorn provided several musical selections as well. In keeping with the Oklahoma theme, homemade ice cream and a wedding cake in the shape of Oklahoma were served at the outdoor reception. After a short honeymoon at the Turning Leaf Bed and Breakfast near Beaver's Bend National Park in southeastern Oklahoma, the couple will reside in both Tishomingo and Ada. ------------------------------ See what's new at AOL.com <http://www.aol.com?NCID=AOLCMP00300000001170> and Make AOL Your Homepage<http://www.aol.com/mksplash.adp?NCID=AOLCMP00300000001169> . -- ~ Melinda ~

    1. [PRA] VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AUDIT COMMITTEE - 2ND REQUEST
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. I posted a message on 10/09/07 asking for volunteers to serve on the PRA Audit Committee. Fortunately, we have one person who served on last year's committee who has agreed to serve again. However, we need two (2) more volunteers. If you would like to help, please let me know. More information on the Audit Committee is listed below. ============================================================================ ============== The PRA has an Audit Committee each year to review the PRA's financial records and procedures. Last year we had three great volunteers who did a terrific job and provided the PRA with some excellent suggestions which the Board adopted as part of our new policies and procedures. This year we need three (3) PRA Members who have a little extra time to review the PRA's bank records and financial records for 2007. It is my opinion that less than three (3) hours will be needed because the PRA has very few financial transactions and records each year. Plus, with our experiences from 2006 to guide us, we have a much better idea how to get the job done. If you have a background in bookkeeping, business or as an accountant, please help us by volunteering to serve in this important committee. If you're interested or if you'd like more information, please contact me at -->genepenn1@comcast.net. Thank you! 3. Dear Daniel Many thanks for your reply. I would be happy to exchange information on the earlier ancestors of Micajah Perry. I have particular interests in Richard Perry of St. Antholin parish, London, and his cousins, John and William Perry of early Virginia. I have done some appreciable work on these. My interest really relates back to a William Swan, who was the first customs collector on the James River, February 1636/7 to May 1638, and father of Colonel Thomas Swann of Swann's Point in the County of Surry, VA. I am convinced that William Swan knew this family back in London in the 1620s and 1630s - and that is how he came to emigrate to Virginia. I have no information on him between his marriage at Stepney in 1612 and his Land Patent of November 1635. They key is where he was living in London/Middlesex. As a long-standing member of the West Surrey FHS I am better placed than most to know what is involved in unravelling that question. Do you know the Pennington contact for the family and relations of Sir Isaac Pennington, the prominent merchant in London in the 1630s and 1640s and undoubted acquaintance of Richard Perry and Matthew Craddock? The Perry discussion is probably best continued off-list, if you wish to pursue. You would be considered a member of Group 7 - even though you are not descended from Micajah Pennington. I am cc'ing this message to Gene. I'm sure that he will reply on what he knows about Benajah. 3. DoraLee: The address list we use is created from the addresses our Members provide us on their PRA 2007 Membership application UNLESS you notified our Membership Chair, Melinda G. Pennington, of a different address PRIOR to 9/01/07. We generate a master mailing list that is used by our printer to create mailing labels that are placed on the envelopes for the Fall 2007 mailings for the Pedigrees CD, the election ballot and the PRA 2008 Membership application. All three (3) of those mailings are based on the address our PRA 2007 Members have on file with our Membership Chair as of 9/1/07. Due to the type of mailing we use (media mail I think is what we use), if you have moved or have a forwarding address at the USPO, the local Post Office will most likely NOT forward it but will return the material to our Membership Chair. I suggest you contact our Membership Chair, Melinda G. Pennington (mgp383@gmail.com) and see what address was on file for you as of 9/1/07. If it's not your winter address, you should make arrangements with her to send your Pedigrees CD to your winter address when it is returned to her. Please note that you may not receive the election ballot and the PRA 2008 Membership application either. You can renew your PRA Membership online but the election ballot is mailed directly to your address. 1. [PRA] Pedigrees 2007 Fall Issue Status
    2. Colleen Blizard
    3. Good Day! I sent the Pedigrees 2007 Fall Issue to the printer today, October 15, 2007. It will take him a week to 10-days to produce our issue. I expect our members to start seeing the issue in their mailboxes in early November. Now is the time to start thinking about submissions for our next issue! The deadline for submissions for the Spring, 2008 issue is February 15, 2008. You can submit an article or family history at anytime! Don't wait for the deadline. If you have a photo or photos that you would like to share with the PRA, please send them to me along with the group number. I'll combine all photos by group number for a group album. If you don't know the group, we'll have an unknown group album. If you see a Pennington in the news or see a Pennington website, please forward the information to me, including the source and copyright information. We'll include it in a future issue. The PRA needs your help to make our future Pedigrees issues a success! Don't forget about the PRA Blog: http://praresearch.blogspot.com/. You can post a question/comment or reply to something already posted. The blog will allow you to search for previous posts, too. If you have any questions, please let me know. 1. [PRA] VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AUDIT COMMITTEE
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. The PRA has an Audit Committee each year to review the PRA's financial records and procedures. Thank you! 3. Greetings: Within the next few weeks PRA Members will be receiving their Election Ballots for the PRA Board of Directors. There are three Board of Directors terms which will expire December 31, 2007. Thanks to the efforts of James D. Pennington and Darlene Anderson who volunteered to serve on the Nominations Committee, we have five individuals who have indicated their willingness to serve on the PRA Board. All election ballots returned must be postmarked no later November 31, 2007. So keep your eyes open for the Ballots and please take the time to vote. The PRA is your organization and your vote does make a difference. Thank You James W. Pennington President

    1. [PRA] PRA BLOG
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. New postings (messages) have been made to the PRA blog at --> http://praresearch.blogspot.com. If you've not visited the PRA blog recently, take a look at what's happening. Anyone can view and/or post a message (comment) to any of the topics. You can also start your own topic by posting a new message to the blog. The main thing I like about blogs (besides the ability to post pictures, search, etc.) is that you can set them up as RSS feeds (which the PRA blog is set up to do). Then you post the RSS feed line into your website home page and it will automatically feed new message headlines directly to your home page. I do this for news, other genealogy websites, etc. so when I go to my home page, I get headlines from all my favorite websites, e-zines, etc. at one location. If I want to learn more about a headline, I just click on it and it'll take me directly to the website with the information. The RSS Site feed is --> http://praresearch.blogspot.com/atom.xml . I have Dick Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter (http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/), Footnote's blog (http://blog.footnote.com/), 24-7 Family History Circle (http://blogs.ancestry.com/circle/) and several news websites setup as RSS feeds on my home page in my web browser. I use IE Explorer 7 for my web browser and www.Google.com as my home page. Once you set www.google.com as you home page, you can add RSS feeds as well as other helpful "things". Most "portal home pages" like Yahoo, MSN, Comcast.net, AT&T.com have the same features. I also have a Google e-mail address (genepenn1@gmail.com) so I can use it as needed. Once you have setup your Gmail e-mail account, you can login to www.google.com and create your own customized home page. If you've not setup your home page for RSS feeds, try it. I think you'll like it. Gene Pennington (Group 7) Chairman Research Director Pennington Research Association, Inc. www.PenningtonResearch.org PRA Blog - http://praresearch.blogspot.com
