Hi Gene, Yes, I was planning to share which volume it was published in but it will take some time because I have not received all the inventory as yet. There is a steady stream of inventory coming but nothing yet ! I'll let everyone know when I find it. Thanks for posting... I saw this bumper sticker on someone's website and its not far off the mark! The value of Y-chromosome testing in genealogy can be summed up in one statement: "Surnames are really just a method of keeping track of Y-chromosome patterns". With at least 830 surname DNA studies and over 40,000 people tested it is clear that this tool works! If you are interested in this new tool in genealogy go to www.penningtonresearch.org and click on DNA Study.
I just found the information I was looking for on the Pennington Research Association website. You can purchase "Pennington Military Records, Pennington Pedigrees" (No. Pages 161) on our website by going to ==> http://www.penningtonresearch.org/publications/publications.htm and then scrolling down to the section titled "Publications Ordered from Vernon Kirby". It is listed as Item D - "Pennington Military Records, Pennington Pedigrees - No. Pages 161". I hope this helps. Virginia: Copyrights are very important to respect so if you don't have permission of the Historical Society in Newark to publish the Revolutionary War Diary, then don't publish it on the Internet. You probably can share abstracts from it with other researchers but I would contact the Historical Society in Newark to clarify what their copyright policy is, etc. If you do contact them, you may find they will share it and/or that it has already been published on the Internet and they will give you a link to find the publication. If it has been published in the Pennington Pedigrees, then researchers can purchase a copy of the specific volume and use it for their research. I hope this helps to answer your questions. Rene'e: There is an article in one of the Pennington Pedigrees titled "Military Records of the Pennington, Volumes 1 - 27". I'll need to do some research to locate which specific Pedigree's Volume this was published in but if any other Pennington Research Association members know which volume, please share it with the list. I do have a copy of this article that I will publish later this year on our new website for the JFMF on MyFamily.com. It is several pages long so it is too large to publish on this list. Virginia I had been wondering the same thing about the Rev War diary that had been kept. Seems it would be a great accounting for us all to read and appreciate.....Lois Virginia, Have you had the journal that kept during the rev war printed in the Pennington Pedigrees? I've only been a member a year so I may have missed it if you had printed it previously. Marie Jenkins Penington PS: The name was spelled Pennington earlier but got changed in the early 1900's. Dear Mandy I think that you are on the right track going to the Newark Historical Society. I spent a day there about 10 years ago and found it to be a treasure trove of very old books and manuscripts. You just have to make a list and they let you look through everything. I know that you are supposed to work from the known to the unknown, but in this case we need to sort out all of the NJ Penningtons and find out which Ephriam goes with who. I think that the DNA shows that he is a very important ancestor to many of us and we need to concentrate on this area. I have a copy of the journal written during the rev war and it mentions many aunts and uncles, but I haven't been able to sort them out. Good luck to you. I live in California or I would be there in a heartbeat--I do plan to go back and am also interested in Trenton. Virginia Pennington Saxton
Trying to find my greatgrandfather Henry Oscar Pennington born Oct. 1848 in Tiffin, Ohio, unknown parents. I found an 1850 census for an "Osker" Pennington, age 2 son of Edwin Pennington, physician, and wife Anne Kuhn in Allen County, Ohio. On the 1860 census it shows the name of Henry, age 12, son of Edwin and Anne. Trying to find out if this Henry is one in the same. Any information would be greatly appreciated as he has become quite a "brickwall" for me. Thanks Dolores M. Ault Drummond Isle, Michigan
Hi Arthur, Thanks for posting that information. I am sure that the members of Grp. 4 appreciate the opportunity to add that to their family files. There is also a Robert A. Pennington in Shenandoah Cty, VA 2nd Lt. killed in action. Not definite but a possibility of being part of Grp. 9. Thanks for sharing ... This could get more interesting. I hope someone has this family in their database to help me out here. I found Peter on the 1900, 1910, 1920 census with his parents. Interesting, 1920 living a few houses down from who became his wife Grace Setser and her parents. Now in the 1910 census living right next door is a Redd Philpot family, Redd's son Ulus Philpot married Grace's sister Hazel Setser. So I look at my KY marriages on my website and find a Joshua Pennington m. Elizabeth Philpot 15 May 1897 (close date for Peter b. 1899). Redd Philpot has a sister named Elizabeth b. abt 1868. Is it this sister of Redd that married Joshua Pennington? HELP. Elizabeth Philpot's parents are Granville Philpot and Millie Byerly. Kristie Setser Keeping Genealogy Free..... Interesting after rethinking my steps, I pulled up the image on my computer of the 1920 South Corbin, Whitley Co KY Census of my gr.grandfather John Henry Setser. Low and behold, 2 doors down is a Josh Pennington with a son Peter Pennington age 20. So now I know how Aunt Grace met Peter Pennington :-). Rene'e Thank you so much. Ancestry.com as stated did not have the image where I could view it. I tried all evening. Now to find which group of Pennington's he belonged to. I have been stumped on Rev. Peter "Pete" Pennington for a few years. He was born around 1900 in most likely Clay Co KY. He married Grace Catherine Setser (my aunt). I have all information on children of Peter. I have no dates or parents. He resided in Hamilton Co OH. He was living in 1965 at the time Aunt Grace died. Help on this major brick wall is appreciated. There is a Peter Pennington in the 1930 Cincinnati, Hamilton Co OH Census b. 1899 in KY that is most likely him but Ancestry.com states the image is missing :( so I can't view it to see who is in the household to know for sure it is the one Peter I am searching for.
