    3. Hi Rex, The PRA is just in the planning stages for our 2004 Reunion in Richmond, IN. The dates are Aug 5-7. We always try to schedule extra activities for pleasure or research. I am sure that we will be considering Ft. Wayne to visit if possible. We have updates on our PRA website at www.penningtonresearch.org . Our Research Director, Gene always makes it a point to share with the mailing list any updates that include the reunion activities. We may take you up on the offer to show us around Allen Co. Library and really appreciate your offer. Hopefully, we will see you at the Reunion at Earlham College as well. Thanks for posting... 3. Phyllis: If you're referring to the Allen Co. Library, I can't answer your question. However, if you're referring to the new Pennington Research Association Library/Archive at Earlham College, the answer is probably yes and no. The reason I don't have a specific answer is that since the new Library/Archive opened, all we've been able to do is to start collecting material and send it to the Library/Archive. Most of the material, if not all of it, has not yet been indexed. While Jasper Green Pennington, our Archivist, has an inventory of the material, it is not broken down into specific Family Groups and/or individuals by Groups. For example, I sent several boxes of material that contained many family histories but were not indexed by specific Family Groups. There were also drawings, publications of the Pennington Research Association (indexes, lists) and other research material. In addition, the material at the new Library/Archive is not yet ready for public use. One of the main purposes of having our meeting this year at the new Library/Archive was to have some "hands on" work sessions where we would help get the material ready for indexing so it can be used. I hope I've answered your question. If not, please let me know. Gene Pennington (Group 7) Chairman Research Director Pennington Research Association, Inc. www.PenningtonResearch.org

They are not far from the permanent location. Just visit their website at http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/ for location and directions. The temp location is great. All books are now open shelve. No more waiting for your books to be brought to your desk. All materials are available at the temporary location. There is also an area downstairs for coffee, bagels, etc. Most folks I have talked to like the temporary location better then the permanent. Although the permanent location should be really nice when it is ready to move back in to. I live about an hour from the library and am there about twice per week doing research for clients. 3. Sorry The EA below should have been IE. Nick. "Nicholas Penington" <[email protected]> 02/20/2004 11:00 AM Please respond to PRA-L To: [email protected] cc: Subject: Determining minority ancestry with DNA (not yet you can't) I was sent some newspaper clippings asking me my opinion about a certain DNA test called the DNAprint test. Since I run the Pennington DNA study which uses a very different type of test (that is a very good test) I thought I would share my reply with the list.. Ironically the Y chromosome test can give you a good indication if one's direct male line ancestor was Native American. Thanks for the newspaper clippings. I do know quite a bit about the DNAprint test but I think very little of it. I will explain why. Theoretically the test, if it used thousands of ancestry informative markers would be very interesting but it uses I think 75. They may have increased this to about 150, I am not sure. What the test can do is tell you that based on ones DNA one is likely to be 95% Indo-European (Caucasian or EA) and they may claim 5% lets say African American. Many people come back 100% EA. However the error is about 10-15% so that means the test is not accurate for the determination of minority racial ancestry. Personally I do not need a DNA test to tell me that my majority ancestry is Indo-European! Consequentially I think this particular test is worthless. Some Penningtons have rumors of Native American ancestry way back. I am afraid that the DNAprint test simply cannot pick this up with any certainty unless this was a grandparent. What is more the way this type of DNA is inherited means that a sibling may not even have inherited any of their grandparents "Native American" markers. ==== PRA Mailing List ==== ==== PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION ==== PRA publications are available at the PRA Web Site at http://www.penningtonresearch.org

    3. Hi All, Hey, I just got the Visitors Booklet from Ft. Wayne. The Historical Genealogy Dept. at the Allen County Library sounds marvelous! Also the History Center at the City Hall Bldg. www.fwhistorycenter.com , the Liincoln museum, Train Town, etc. There is also a large Amish Settlement called Grabill north of Ft. Wayne. It is a distance but sounds wonderful to visit. Oh my, I forgot, we have to work during this Reunion, too. Well, we are so good, we will get 'everything done' for the PRA and our members and play too! Their booklet also has some coupons but the expiration is 2003. They apologized and their new booklet is not back from the printer but they will forward it shortly. The coupons are discounts at local motels, free entry at the museums, etc. Could save us some money! When I receive the new booklet I will give everyone an update and test your ability to resist our invitation to come and join us at the reunion. If you want the new booklet and current coupons, sign in and they mail very quickly www.visitfortwayne.com Have a good weekend.
