Oh My Dana, Excellent reason to miss the program. Boy, we have our work cut out for us. Your other connection will be to Family Group 4 - Richard Pennington married Hannah Boone, sister of Daniel Boone. Have you been able to find out how this involves Abraham yet? As for your other email about Abraham, I have started to reply when I was interrupted and needed a break for my program. But I will get back to you on him in the morning. Have a good night Rene'e Davis ARD, Family Groups PRA - Group 9 Pennington Research Association, Inc. www.penningtonresearch.org ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 10:06 PM Subject: Re: Reminder > Aargh! Hi Maxine, It was wonderful. They investigated the first monopoly game which was originally patented by a woman (yea - a women) and was invented to keep alive the movement against capitalism. The post cards from WWII where from a Japanese man (author and artist) who was encamped in Tule Camp in CA during the war. The investigators eventually found him living in WA. Also a walking cane handed down through a family was supposedly given to this man's 4th grandfather that was on the Lewis and Clark expedition. The program is commercial free and every minute of it, you learn something. Between the reports, one of the investigators gives tips on researching different aspects of a mystery. They also have a website with great investigative techniques. www.historydetectives.org . Last year was the first year for the program. It was also the first program I thought was worthly of my modest donation to PBS> Although they have a number of great programs but this program was close to my heart and was like icing on the cake. I'll try to remember to remind everyone earlier next Monday. Hi Gang, Boy, I'm almost too late. Remember the History Detectives air tonight on your local PBS channel. Hi Rene'e, Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. We drove back to CA for my husband's 20th HS reunion and haven't had time to scan in the Abraham Penington pages. The mag is sitting open to the page so I won't forget to scan and email this weekend. I'm reading all the pra emails now. Do you have any documents about abraham sr and Mary Elkton and child Isabella? I'm trying to locate cemetery records, birth records, death, etc...and haven't found anything on anyone other than Isabella except for other people's postings on LDS and ancestry. The only document I found is the deed from the Teague mag. Maybe these documents are listed in the pedigrees but I haven't received mine, yet, so I can't look. Thanks! Joan, I'm not familiar with the Tenn. area history. None in Hamilton Cty. But I found 2 Mary Heltons: Mary born in 1854 (5 yrs old) in Cannon, TN Roll M653_1242 pg. 386, in the house of Mary Helton. The other Mary BC Helton in the household of Solomon Helton. Roll 653-1268 Pg. 369 in Polk Cty. Interestingly, (if this is your Wm. and Mary), In 1870 William N or W Pennington is in Dist. 4 of Hamilton Cty, TN Roll 593_1532, pg. 354, image 163. Household of James 53 yrs , wife may be deceased) William is 16, Juda E. 13, Susan A 11, Nancy 6, and James KP is 18yrs. So sometime between 1870 and 1880 your William married Mary in TN and left for Texas, showing up on the 1880 census. That is if we are on the right road. Hi Joan, I looked at the 1880 census again and added to what you listed. The census also has - William's father was born in SC and his mother born in TN. This makes William born abt. 1855 in GA. and Mary b. abt. 1856 in TN. Their first born (Mary) was born in TN about 1876. Chances are that Wm. and Mary probably married sometime in 1870's in TN. So, I checked the Marriage records for Hamilton County, TN 1857-1952 and found a William N. Pennington married Mary Melvina Helton 22 Jun 1873. That could fit and is worth checking further. There is a Wm. N. born in Dade, GA in the 1860 census. At this time Wm. is 6 yrs. old (1854), his father is James who was b. in SC; mother is Mary A age 25 b. TN, Jasper N. 12 yrs. Julie E. 2 yrs and Susanna is 10 months. Both the 1880 and 1860 census have this Wm's father born in SC; Wm. birth year is in the ballpark. Further William and Mary's children, Mary(possibly named after Wm's mother), John (?) and James (named after Wm.'s father). Sometimes in genealogy we have to use the 'process of elimination' to find our ancestors. Maybe looking into the marriage in Hamilton TN the record might give you Wm's parents. On Mary A. (Dau. of Wm and Mary Pennington) b. abt. 1875-1876. If you think that Mary A married this George Marks, I would check into the 1910 census in TX. The census would have her profession and also list their son James Andrew at the age of 17. Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful. Maybe someone else on the two mailing lists can help. Hi Gang, Sometime ago, I copied this article from the Arizona Republic for the Pennington's list and of course it has been buried ever since. Jan 31, 1891 - Front Page " THE AIR SHIP Fairly Satisfactory Test Made of a Thirty-Foot Model Chicago, January 30 - The airship invented by William Pennington was tried again today and ?? appearance it was thoroughly demonstrated that a craft has at last been invented that permits feats of aerial navigation never before accomplished. The propelling and steering ship tested today is only a thirty-foot model, made of oiled silk and the practicability of using aluminum which was to be the material of which the full -sized ships will be built has to be shown. The car which carries the passenger was not attached today and the ship floated in the air and was propelled by a wheel like that of a propeller, the motive power coming from storage batteries on the floor, attached by a light wire. The rudders being set at different angles, the ship traveled in a satisfactory manner around the exposition building. The speed attained was not great, but the inventor is sanguine of much better results with a satisfactory battery." Does anyone know what family his Gentleman belongs? Carmen, thanks so very much for clearing this up for us. I have been searching all over for a Mary Jones. Since it did not indicate which Micajah, that I could see, I was in hopes that some one had found Micajah Jr.'s wife. No such luck though. Rosalie

Dana, I was late getting back to you on Abraham. But here it is - Hi Dana, Excuse the delay, feeling under the weather. Yes, Abraham and Mary Elkton Pennington did have your ancestor, daughter Isabella and they do have a Abraham Jr. Although I do not have a source for Abraham Jr. yet. There are Teague's all inter twined in Grp 9. Yea, we are all detectives - ain't it fun !!! You should get the invitation from Carmen in the near future for the Myfamily website. When you do let us know if you have questions. Have you sent in your registration yet for the Pennington Research Association 2004 Reunion/Meeting? If not, get busy! Remember the dates: August 5 - 7, 2004 The 2004 PRA Reunion and Meeting will be held in Richmond, Indiana located just a few miles from Earlham College. Be part of this historic Pennington Reunion and help dedicate our new Research Library/Archive AND help us celebrate 20 years as an organized genealogical association. News Flash! There is a good possibility that a dramatic breakthrough in the DNA Study will be announced at the meeting. This could potentially tie up loose ends and clarify the overall structure of the American Pennington families and how they relate to each other. No doubt it will be a major topic of discussion during the DNA Study question and answer sessions. Sorry we cannot be more specific but the tests that would support this are currently being done and there is no way to know at this time if we have our breakthrough or not. Go to --> http://www.penningtonresearch.org/Meetings/2004mtg.htm to learn more. See you there!
