    3. Hi Virginia, Oh my, well, I haven't looked a great deal into the other names except the marriages to Pennington's in 1700-1800's. What are the dates for yours? 3. Hi Dana, Well, I don't have an excuse like a reunion to give you for the reply delay. Truth is- my office is torn apart - this time I'm not looking in my piles, I'm looking for a legal pad, the whole thing ! It has the source for the marriage of Abraham and Mary Elkton. I have spent a week looking for the silly thing but I haven't given up yet. I hate to tell the list this - because right now it is only SPECULATION, I am still working on sources. What I can tell you about Abraham(1st) and Mary is both were born about 1730 in MD. The children so far are: Abraham Jr., Isabella Having said that - I can put this Abraham in Frederick County which includes Orange Co. VA. Abraham was one of the first land deeds recorded where Abraham sold property (500 Acres) to Christopher Beeler. The land was just west of the Shenandoah River (which today would be in Hampshire Cty. WV). Anyway, Abraham obtained the land in 1734. (Source: History of Lower Shenandoah Valley; J.E. Norris Pg. 79. I can also put Capt. Isaac Penington in the same area located on Long Marsh in Oct. 1750. Could Abraham and Capt. Isaac be brothers? Only time will tell. Of interest::: I can also put the surnames connected to the Penington's (VARIOUS SPELLINGS) of LOFTIN, ANDERSON (many and also connnected to my family throughtout history)BEALE, BEESON, MC KEAVER, ORR, PRITCHARD, PUGH, RIDGEWAY, STRIBLING, VANMETER, VEASEY, WARD, WETZEL, in the early history of the valley. Now at the same time that Abraham has his land (1730s), another division of the Shenandoah Valley was divided by Gov. Spottswood, he divided, Spottsyvania Cty was divided and its northern half erected into the County of Orange. This is where I found the marriage of Abraham and Mary (listed on that notebook- that is probably under my nose - by now). In 1738 Frederick Cty. was formed which included what is now Shenandoah Cty., portions of Page, Warren, Clark, Berkley, Jefferson and Morgan and the counties exactly westward of this section (orig. Lord Fairfax Grant) I think because there are no Elkton's in the area of VA. So, is it possible that Mary meant Abraham in MD and he took off with her, they married in Orange, Frederick, VA in 1720? The Elkton name- the census takers really had fun spelling this name. It will make you crazy - even using the soundex. As soon as I find that notepad - I will post to the mailing list - I always do :>) HEY, HISTORY DETECTIVES ON TONIGHT - PBS. 3. Hi, I FINALLY found what I was looking for. Yes, in 1870 there were possibly two different Pennington families in my neck of the woods. A couple of years ago, I went north and found a few things. In 1870 in family was in Tucson William H. that was born in Texas (1849) also Margret b. 1844, she was a seamstress also born in Texas. The one I am curious about if this Chas. Penninger age 28 born in Wuerttemburg, GERMANY. This Charles, a shoemaker lived here in Phoenix and commuted to Prescott, owned land, opened a store, which is still there. I talked to the lady that leased the building because his painted name is still on the building. She says he was a shoemaker and then bought into a type of Goodyear Store. Remember those in the 40's? I believe she is really talking about the son of the original Wm. Penninger. Anyway, the store is located just of Whiskey Row (downtown square in Prescott, AZ. My interest was raised when I saw Wuerttemburg. To large surnames in my family are from the Wuerttemburg, Baden area of Germany (the heart of the Black Forest. Very interesting. I also know that the Pennington name is related to some of the Indian Agents for AZ. Territory. But I haven't had time to look further into that. Hey, another piece of paper was lifted off my pile! 3. Maxine, Don't be sad about the cherished memories. Rejoice that the records your mother complied will live forever. But I fully understand. I remember looking at the 1930 census to find my mother staying with Aunt Martha. When I showed her, she remembered her mother took her there because the house was going to be quarantined due to Meningitis. She had forgotten all about that until I showed her. Just wonderful things like that makes our family mysteries disappear. Just let me know of the 1850 census - okay? 3. Rene'e, Thanks, I found out how you can get the 1850 census at home but you have to browse all through it and that is time consuming. It has not been indexed yet to add to the others. I found the district that had my hometown on it and enjoyed seeing some of the surnames that are still there today. Also, I found the 1930 census that my Mother enumerated because I knew which district it was. I remember going with her and I would play with the kids of the households while she talked with the adults. She made lifelong friends during her work at Great Crossings, Scott County, KY. It was only about six miles from where we lived. I had to cry when I saw her handwriting. Some people would not answer the door and she would see a curtain move. She would go somewhere and call them if they had a phone and they would answer right away. They wouldn't come to the door because they would think she was trying to sell something. Those were the good old days when I had my Mother and no worries. I will take you up on that offer when I get back to my genealogy and remember what it was I wanted to find in the 1850 census. Oh My, I feel like I am looking into a mirror of myself years ago when I found the PRA, finding new cousins and could document my line into Grp. 9. I was so excited, I just couldn't type fast enough!! :>). The first thing we need to do is get you inducted into the group file.We need a foundation before we can focus on other branches. So, start with 'baby steps'. Send me 'off list' your family line to Isabella and any supporting material; sources etc. that you want included for the Group File. Send a 'gedcom' to me at [email protected] . I don't know what software you are using but we will work it out. If we need help accomplishing this - there is lots of help available. After this is done - we can work on the rest of what you have - okay? 3. Rene'e, Check with any of your local Libraries that you are eligible to receive a library card from and see if they have this service. You get an image of the actual page and most is the same quality of proof that you would get if you went and spent hours looking for a name on microfilm. I have so many that I would never have been able to get if I had to go to the Archives in Frankfort. You can print them off easily, just be sure you read and print the instructions. There are four pages, but very little on each page because they have images to go along with the instructions. The 1880 Census is not on, I guess because the info is available from LDS and the 1930 Census is not complete. And there is no 1890. The 1850 is missing also and that is the one I would like to see . I don't know why it is not on. Hope you can find this at a Library near you. 3. Thanks, Rene'e, for giving us a review of the program. I am not sure it is shown more than once here, but I will check the TV guides. It is shown on KT2 here in Central Kentucky but may be on KET sometime during the same week. I have to get out my booklet and read the instructions on how to tape a program on my new VCR/DVD, so I can set it next Monday in case I don't get home in time. I go to Dulcimer Club on Mondays nights and sometimes, a couple of us go out to eat afterwards and that makes me late getting home. Well, they are getting ready to resurface our street, so I guess I will stay in for the day. I don't want to take my white car out in that. Guess I can do a lot of surfin' while I am staying in. Do you use Heritage Quest to get to the US Census information? We have it free through our Library and it is great just to sit at home and read and print the information. Hope it is available to you and all on this list. 1. Re: Reminder
    2. Aargh! I totally forgot about History Detectives. I received another document that I had been waiting for via snail mail and got excited to finally have names of some elusive ancestors. I was online doing research for these new ancestors, when I found out that my paternal line goes back to Squire Boone. My ancestor, Israel Boone (one of Squire and Sarah Morgan's sons) was evidently Daniel Boone's brother. Can you believe it? All this time and I had no idea. I think there is a Pennington connection with the Boone family, too. I also found a website that said President Lincoln married a Boone, too. Anybody know about this? Anyway, I think this was a good excuse to forget about the show. I hope to catch History Detectives next week. Have a great week!
