    1. [PRA] Fall, 2006 Pedigrees (Vol 38, Issue 2) status and future issues
    2. Hello Everyone, The Fall, 2006 Pedigrees issue has been sent to the printer. Once a proof copy is ready, the printer will send it to me. The printer expects to mail it to me on Monday, November 20th. I assume I will have it by the following weekend and I will review it as soon as I get it. Assuming there are no problems with it, I'll give the printer the OK and he will print the issues. The printer expects he will need a couple of weeks to print the issue, which means the issues will get in the mail mid-December. Once I have looked at the proof, I will send another e-mail to let everyone know the status. I'd like to thank Gene, Jim and Shaunta for all of their help with getting this issue together. Carmen and Shaunta are working with authors on their articles for our next issue - a big thanks to them for that, too! All the help is greatly appreciated. If you have any articles that you would like to submit for a future issue, please send the article as soon as possible. The more time we have to work with you on your articles, the better issue we can provide to you. If you have submitted articles in the past, and they were not included in an issue, and you would like to resubmit them - please do! There are some very interesting articles in the Fall, 2006 Pedigrees. We need your help in keeping future issues just as interesting! Jim, Gene and I are going to be reviewing the Pedigrees process. Once we do that, I will send out a deadline for articles. If you have any suggestions or comments on the Pedigrees - maybe something you would like to see in future issues - please let me know. A survey will be included with your Fall, 2006 Pedigrees. Please be sure to review it and send it back to Jim, if necessary. We are considering to publish future issues on a CD. There are some benefits to publishing on a CD, such as: * We won't be restricted to a 100-page limit on future issues; * We can include more source material; * We can include color graphics in the issue; and, * The issues will be easily searchable using Adobe Reader. So, please send more material for our future issues! I appreciate your patience while I learn my new responsibilities. Thanks, Colleen Blizard Pedigrees Editor Obituary Database Editor Pennington Research Association, Inc. _www.PenningtonResearch.org_ (http://www.PenningtonResearch.org)

    1. [PRA] More interesting but not very useful Pennington info
    2. Bill Nash
    3. After posting my previous message about a Pennington in the 1890 census, I decided to use the search feature of Ancestry.com to extract some more info about Penningtons/Peningtons. I sure hope somebody else has not already done this and posted it some where that I missed but here goes. Census Penningtons/Peningtons 1790 27/25 1800 43/28 1810 103/27 1820 139/70 1830 236/73 1840 326/119 1850 2441/965 1860 3225/1004 1870 4624/1117 1880 5525/1909 1890 1/0 see my previous post 1900 8331/1997 1910 11,660/2330 1920 13,838/2328 1930 15,859/1459 Remember that the 1850 census was the first to list all family members not just head of household. Civil War Service Records 822/191 WWI Registrations 2824/344 WWII Enlistments 1363/19 US Veterans Cemeteries 1038/17 SSDI 12,518/110 US Phone and Address Directories. 1993-2002 49,710/379 Some enterprising person could chart all these numbers and maybe give more sense to them but the most obvious thing is the sudden drop off of the popularity of the Penington name. 2. Bill Nash
    3. All genealogists know that the 1890 census was lost in a fire. But of course not ALL the records were lost so I thought it might be interesting to see if any Penningtons survived. Sure enough ONE did. A fellow named Fredone W. Pennington, white male, age 22, occupation artist, rooming at 1460 Corcoran St in Washington, DC made it through. Anybody have any connections? Didn't find any Peningtons though.

    1. [PRA] Richmond Civil War Newspaper now Online
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. This news posting came from Dick Eastman's blog which is connected to his online newsletter. To read the full release, go to --> http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/11/richmond_civil_.html . Another research source for those of you looking in the VA area and for any Civil War ancestors. I did a search on "Pennington" and surprised that not only did I get news from the VA area but the paper also had stories in it from the North. I found several articles about "Speaker Pennington" who was from NJ. I also did a search on "Wann", "Justice" and "Lancaster" and found articles with each of them in the stories. Very interesting! The release on his blog says" "Richmond Civil War Newspaper now Online" "The following is an announcement from the University of Richmond: Through support from an IMLS grant and in collaboration with Project Perseus at Tufts University, the University of Richmond has digitized the Richmond Daily Dispatch newspaper for the Civil War years. The project is not yet complete. However the newspaper is now available for use and exploration. Please bring it to the attention of faculty who study or teach about the Civil War era at your school or college. We welcome your comments and feedback on this work in progress; just click on the survey link on the newspaper's homepage at http://dlxs.richmond.edu/d/ddr/index.html. We hope this will be useful to a broad audience encompassing scholars, students, genealogists, Civil War buffs, re-enactors, and more. Please feel free to bring it to the attention of other librarians and interested parties.' Enjoy! 1. [PRA] Ancestry Releases the World's Largest Online Collection of U.S. Historical Immigration Records
    2. Gene Pennington
    3. Ancestry announced yesterday they have released the world's largest online collection of U.S. Historical Immigration records AND access is completely FREE through the end of November. The announcement posted on "24-7 Family History Circle" blog says: "More than 100 Million Names on All Readily Available U.S. Passenger Lists from 1820 - 1960; Includes the Complete Ellis Island Collection, as well as Records from Over 100 Other U.S. Ports of Arrival" "PROVO, UTAH - November 9, 2006 - Ancestry.com, the world's largest online family history resource, today announced that it has added to its online service all readily available U.S. passenger lists from 1820 to 1960. An estimated 85 percent of Americans have an immigrant ancestor included in the passenger list collection which covers the height of American immigration, making Ancestry.com the only source for the largest compilation of passenger list records available and fully searchable online. To commemorate the launch of the collection, Ancestry.com is offering completely free access to its entire Immigration Collection through the end of November. The passenger list collection, which took more than three years to digitize and transcribe, celebrates the courage, hopes, fears and memories of more than 100 million passengers." To read the complete story as well as the link to visit the new records collection, go to --> http://blogs.ancestry.com/circle/?p=745 . I spent a few hours searching and found many potential "hits" of interest. There were several entries that I've never seen before for some very familiar Penningtons like "Rachel Pennington", "Timothy Pennington", "Richard Pennington", "William Pennington" and many others. Some of the dates went as far back as 1670's. And, this database includes entries from over 100 U.S. Ports of Arrival! Wow! Enjoy! 3. Dear Virginia, It was neat to see your email to the PRA. I am glad that you found the Kentucky Explorer in the Indy Library. I gave a copy of the magazine to everyone who attended the PRA reunion in Richmond this past July. Do you live near Indy? I live east of Muncie near the Indiana/Ohio state line. I am in Group 7. Do you know which group you are in?
