The A.N. appears to be Althea Viola (b. 1915) and she would have been a niece to Mary (Maggie) Poythress, her brother's daughter. It seems Althea's mother died in 1915, which is probably why she was staying with her A. Maggie and U. James. They descend from John White Poythress, son of Meredith Jr. & Hester Wilder.
