Then again, maybe not as I have just transcribed two other articles on the same page that have used the £ so perhaps it is meant to be shillings, although they usually have an s for shillings. Fifty pounds would buy a lot of blankets and coal though. Thanks Lyn, All is clearer now. Fifty pounds was an awful lot of money in 1809. He was a nice man, wasn't he! Great job you're doing. Look forward to seeing your web site one day. 3. Thanks Hilary, it was interesting. My BEAVEN family oral tradition claims links to the Morgan's of Tredegar but I think they are confused. That is the most detail I have been able to find on the web I think so far. 3. HI Lyn, I hope you don't mind me copying a part of your Cambrian Notices from Glamorgan l onto this site as the 2 notices shown below are of relevance to Powys. "The Cambrian 18 Feb 1809 At Brecon, aged 78, Hugh BOLD, Esq. At Tyn-y-cwn, Samuel BEAVAN, Esq. upwards of 60 years a Magistrate for the county of Radnor." Hugh Bold was a descendent of the Winter/Wynter family of Brecon, members of which held high office under the Duke of Buckingham and under the Monarchs following the union of Wales with England. Anyone interested in the Winter/Wynter family of England & Wales (including BRE) see the web book "The Golden Falcon" @ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pillagoda/index.htm I am also descended form the BRE Winter/Wynter family, so would also be interested in any new contacts.
