    3. 4. And my grandfather Henry Tompson was born in Mochre, that pretty little place by a small river. His father John E Tompson was the vicar (1870s). Sadly, his wife Caroline died when Henry was very young, and her gravestone is by the path at the right of the church door...Henry came to Canada, eventually... Did you hear this story about Mochre? One very dark and stormy night, the railway bridge washed out at Mochre. It was an hour before the train was due to come through. It was so black and the rain was coming down so heavily, that the driver would likely not see that the tracks had disappeared. A woman was the first to see this problem. She immediately ran and ran and ran and got to the station before Mochdre, just a minute before the train arrived. Breathlessly, she advised the locomotive engineer. So the train, its products, and all the people were saved that night from destruction.
