Thomas Davies daughter Martha living at Ty Cecil Rosser. Any ideas where this was? ============= Dear Mary, The 1841 census shows a family headed by Thomas Davies, forgeman, who has a five year old daughter Martha. His wife's name is recorded as "Titchfield Davies"! In 1841, the family was living in or near Davies Row in the parcel of Maesgwartha (sic), parish of Llanelly, Breconshire (census reference HO107/1366 Folio 41 Page 7). Maesygwartha included the former Llanelly Forge, about five miles east of Brynmawr. You can call up a highly detailed (1:10,560-scale) late 19th century map of the Maesygwartha area by going to the Old Maps website at: http://www.old-maps.co.uk/IndexMapPage2.aspx Using the search facility (near the top of the page) enter the numbers 324100 and 214200 into the two co-ordinates fields and click the GO button alongside. When the map appears, click on the "Enlarge Map" icon, the bottom of the four icons on the tab to the right of the map. A highly detailed large map of the area will open in a new window, centred on Maesgwartha. Unfortunately, the map identify neither "Ty Cecil Rosser" nor "Davies Row" but assuming I've located the correct family, at least you'll know the approximate area where they lived. Kind regards, John
