Dear list, Can anyone tell me why anyone would be married by marriage bond. I have France Jenkins 1804 marrying John Owen 1800 at Y Feinor/Vaynor in 1820 by marriage bond. Does anyone know what infromation would be on the bond? with thanks Diana
If a couple were married by Licence, they were required to produce a bond which was a legal document guaranteeing that the couple would marry or face a penalty if either should decide to opt out. Bonds were not only used for marriages but also for administration of a deceased persons estate. Dear Vera, thank you for the information on marriage bonds. Do you know if the bond gives any information as to the parents and where they were living?
