Dear List, I wonder if anyone can help me on this one. I have a Howel Probert father of Thomas Probert bapt. 31st March 1738 Crickadarn. I believe that Howel Probert married Anne Williams in 1727 at Crickadarn. The NLW say that they do not have any marriage records before 1734. Thomas 1738 I believe married a Hannah with children John 1766 and Thomas 1773. Does anyone have a marriage of a Thomas Probert to Hannah ? or could look up any record for me at Crickadarn. with thanks Diana

Hi Nancy - yes that one is mine - Howel Probert m Ann Williams 1727 Crickadarn Breconshire their son Thomas is baptised at Cricadarn on the 31st March 1738 - I have a photo from the entry in the book at Crickadarn church, a cousin visited the church a couple of weeks ago. This Howel Probert could be the son of Thomas Probert the churchwarden. One of the old bells (the second bell) in the church was inscribed with his name along with that of the other church warden John Maddock. Unfortunately the original register with the relevant information that my cousin and I am after was lent by a previous vicar to a visiting American. The American never returned the register to the church. This was according to the present day incumbent of Crickadarn church. He did however give us the history around the time of these Proberts which was very interesting. Thomas Probert the churchwarden was married to Anne. When he died Anne inherited the farm and money. She then married a William Powell and they had children together who inherited the farm and money. This was before the womens property act of 1870. Thomas Probert's eldest son David thus lost out on his inheritance and went to America. Other children stayed and made their own way. Thomas Probert the churchwarden is buried at Crickadarn dated 1744.
