Cae-meiriol is less than a kilometre to the southeast, at SO061671. Hirfron Cottage is at SO048659, about 1 km south of Rhiw-goch. You can access the relevant 2-kilometre square section of a large scale Ordnance Survey map on the Get-A-Map website http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter SO056667 into the search field and click the GO button. Use the zoom control buttons to the middle left of the map to zoom in to a 2 km x 2 km section of a 1:25,000 scale 'Explorer' map showing all three of the properties you have named. Rhiw-goch is centre top; Hirfron Cottage is bottom left; Cae-meiriol is centre right. Zoom out to obtain a smaller scale map which will show the area in relation to nearby towns and villages. The fact that all three places are identified by name on a modern map suggests the buildings still exist. If they are derelict, they have possibly only recently have become so. I do not know if any of these places has been photographed, or whether any Powys Listers would be prepared to undertake such a project. My own photographic service is on hold at present, until my house sale and move are completed (www.jlb2005.plus.com/wales/cmsng.htm). Dear John I visited these three sites today, Caemeriol Farm and Hirfon Cottage are still very much occupied, but sadly, Rhiwgoch Farm lies drelict in the middle of conifer plantation. I spoke with the farmer at Lower Rhymney and he told me that Rhiwgoch had been empty since the early nineteen sixties and he remembered playing there as a child. Unfortunately, there remain only foundations and overgrown low walls, and due to the low light levels within the plantation photography was impossible.
