It's the corporate logo on someone's hat and jacket. The photograph was taken by a Liverpool photography store, and the man is from a Welsh family. I have pasted the original email below, entitled "[POWYS] Black or Navy Uniform with FL on the upright collar" http://www.sonic.net/~raw/fl_uniform.jpg So, as we'd established at the time, nothing to do with Florida :) Richard. -----Original Message----- From: powys-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:powys-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of 1carla Sent: Friday, November 23, 2007 12:40 PM To: andrewcalow@msn.com; powys@rootsweb.com Subject: [POWYS] FL abbreviation I still can't seem to find the first message that said where this abbreviation was found... Here in America the FL is the postal abbreviation for Florida. Not sure if that fits what your looking for though -----Original Message----- From: powys-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:powys-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Heather Smith Sent: Monday, November 12, 2007 9:52 AM To: POWYS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [POWYS] Black or Navy Uniform with FL on the upright collar Does anyone recognise the following initals, please? FL I have a photograph of my mother's cousin Thomas Jones taking on 4 June 1947. The family were from Heolgerrig Merthyr Tydfil. Thomas has a large FL on his collar, a row of medal bars above his left breast pocket. There is a metal chain going into the pocket under the flap, it is attached to the second buttonhole which is opposite the top of the pocket. It could have perhaps a whistle or watch attached to it. The buttons are fairly large and made of metal. There are two attached to lapels on each side of his shounders. Thomas wears a peak cap with FL in a metal circle. The photo does not show the other side of his collar. Photograph taken by JEROME? Does anyone have any ideas at all, please?
