    3. Bryn, Thank you for the website info. I signed up and did a search but just came up with their children's christenings. Perhaps they married in Ireland before coming to Wales. Maybe you know, is the Church of Wales, Parish Church of Llandysilio a church of England? Please excuse my ignorance of Ireland and Wales, but if the church is not Catholic does that necessarily mean that Michael and Mary came from the North of Ireland? Dot "Dot Schulz" <dschulz@snet.net> asked I'm trying to find marriage information and parents of my GG Grandparents Michael Claven (born abt 1814)and Mary Halligan (born abt 1815); both born in Ireland (county ?). They are found in the 1841 Census living in Domgay, Montgomeryshire, Wales with twin >daughters born in 1840 - Ann and Mary. I have found >the twin's birth records in LDS film no. 0104794 Item 3, Church in Wales, Parish Church of Llandysilio (Montgomeryshire). They also had daughters in 1842, 1844, and 1846. After that Michael disappears and Mary and daughters appear in the 1851 census in >Northowram, Yorkshire. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Dot You can confirm the baptisms of those children online at http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ There you will find the baptism, marriage and burial records of many Montgomery parishes. Bryn Ellis

    3. Dot, A quick search of the IGI ( www.familysearch.org ) for your Michael CLAVEN yielded the following information. (Unfortunately, the three Mary HALLIGAN possibilities showed different spouse names -- maybe worth following up if you think she may have remarried -- was she shown as a widow in 1851?) This christening information was submitted by a patron of the LDS church so not taken from actual church records, presumably -- at least, be sure to corroborate this information using other records but this can be a 'pointer' to work from: Michael CLAVEN Male Christening: 09 APR 1811 Borris, Carlow, Ireland Parents: James CLAVEN & Mary DORAN Source: LDS Film No. 1395951 - Patron Ordinance Submission Sheets, 1969-1991 You may be able to contact the original submitter and compare notes if you order the film from the nearest LDS Family History Center. As for christening their children in the Church of England in Wales, that would've been their only choice, other than nonconformist chapels (i.e., Baptist, Methodist, Congregationalist) as there were no Catholic churches in that area at that time. This doesn't mean they weren't Catholic -- only that they would rather christen their children by some means than not christen them at all, I think.
