Hi Folks, I'm a newbie on this list, dropping in with a query about "Dolan R.S.O. Radnorshire". Can anybody tell me what this signifies? The possibility that it might be 'Royal Signals Office' popped into my head - but when one types 'Dolan RSO' or Dolan Royal Signals Office into Google - nothing pertinent comes up. The person I am researching - a nurse, by the name of Marian Kate Thomas MOORE - lived at 'Old Hall, Dolan, R.S.O. Radnorshire' in 1898, and if I could find out what this means, it might be a start to discovering more about her! Many thanks, Barbara Kearns Sydney, Australia. ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.
Hello Barbara I suspect that "Dolan" is in fact Dolau which can be found in Powys / Radnorshire see http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ Likewise I suspect that RSO stands for Railway Sub (Post) Office , Radnorshire - just a part of the postal address in those days. You will find other instances if you Google. Sorry to disappoint!
