Dear list, Does anyone have any knowledge of John Jones town crier of Brecon town and county in 1820. I have received a marriage bond from the NLW of John Owens born c1800 Gelligaer and in 1820 living at Tredegar Iron Works, Monmouthshire to Frances Jenkins born c 1804 Tredegar. The marriage was at Vaynor Breconshire and I cannot work out why it should be there. The bond is between and I quote......John Owens of Tredegar Iron Works in the county of Monmouthshire Pudler and John Jones of the Town and County of Brecon (Crier) are held and firmly bound to Thomas by Divine Permisssion Lord Bishop of St. David's in £400 etc etc........The above bounden John Owen and Francis Jenkins of the parish of Vaynor in the county of Brecon .... Why would John Jones be part of the bond - would he be a relative or just the person who put up the money? with thanks Diana
