    1. [POWYS] Church or Civil Ceremony Llanfyllin
    2. Hello Lister I ordered a marriage certificate from Welshpool for Llanfyllin. I have just received the following email:- Please could you state if this was a church or civil ceremony. The reference you have provided is the GRO Index reference and will not help us locate the correct entry. Once we have received your request we will search for the correct entry and issue you with a certificate. Does anyone on the list know how I can find out whether it was a Church or Civil Ceremony please? I have tried finding the marriage on North Wales BMD but could it only find it on Ancestry. Best wishes Shirley

    3. Hello. You're not the only one with Llanfyllin anomalies. I had this recent e mail exchange with GRO: I received a marriage certificate today. When ordered I specified the information from the original BMD index JOHN JONES marrying ANN JONES in the March quarter of 1856, Llanfyllin district. JOHN was cross referenced with ANN for 11b 375. The certificate is for JOHN JONES marrying MARY JONES. Can you please check that a mistake hasn't been made and I have been sent the wrong certificate. -------------------------------- I have checked your online order and Unfortunatley the only information you supplied was the mans name and GRO Index number. There was no mention of the woman's name on your application. I regret that we are unable to accept the return of the certificate or issue a refund as the certificate was produced from the reference you quoted : -------------------------------- I'm not after a refund. The reference quoted is from the BMD index. John Jones has that reference and ANN Jones has that reference. The woman's name on the marriage certificate you sent me is MARY. It's not rocket science to conclude there is an error somewhere!!!! -------------------------------- Surely it isn't possible to make a transcription error between ANN and MARY but there doesn't seem to be any attempt to correct errors. Smells like bureaucratic obduracy to me! Heddwch Mike. Mike Llywelyn Cox micoxcox@btinternet.com http://www.ppeyes.org.uk http://micoxpplog.blogspot.com A http://www.solnetwork.org.uk member. 3. Hello Mike, It isn't bureaucracy gone mad. You assumed that because John and Ann shared the same index number that they married each other. This isn't necessarily the case as up to 8 people might share an index reference. By not stating the name of the bride you were looking for, you didn't give the GRO an opportunity to perform a reference check to ensure you received the correct certificate. We've all made these expensive errors :-) Rina http://www.a-glamorgan-family.com/index.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Cox" <micoxcox@btinternet.com> To: <powys@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 24, 2007 12:32 PM Subject: Re: [POWYS] Church or Civil Ceremony Llanfyllin > Hello. > > You're not the only one with Llanfyllin anomalies.
