    3. Jas, There are two places adjacent to one another that come to mind. The first is Aberbechan that lies close to where the River Bechan flows into the River Severn. Within half a mile is the hamlet of Abermule on the main Mid-Wales railway line (well know for the rail crash that took place near there in the 1930's). Both are roughly three miles east of Newtown. Welsh names are so often misspelt by monoglot English scribes that it makes searches that much more difficult. I have on occasions followed the route of a census taker on a detailed map of Welsh farms and it is astonishing what gets written. In this context I have to commend the Ordnance Survey people who do a stirling job in maintaining the authenticity of Welsh names. Good luck with your searches. Alun Evans
