Hi Julie, Thank you for the pointers. It's a shame that the church records aren't held locally, but it's good to know that they are available. I've done some research on my maternal WARFIELD line in the past (I had more information to start with), but that has centred on Somerset. I'm pretty much starting with only my own knowledge of the EDMUNDS family and that's fairly limited. I received a copy of John's death certificate this morning which confirmed that I have the right person, so have sent for his birth certificate. Hopefully it will confirm my hunch Benjamin EDMUNDS was his father & I can really get going. Best wishes, Catherine.
