    2. Hi Neil ? One of the best means of tracking down land owners very specifically is to check the list of Tithe apportionments - a reference document compiled at the time the tithe map was drawn up.? I believe that the one for Trefeglwys dates from 1848 & in it you should be able to find the names of owners & occupiers of all the properties in the parish. You?will probably?need to go to the NLW or TNA or the Powys CAO to find Tithe apportionments, and you may need to consult a reference book by Kain & Oliver (The Tithe Maps of England & Wales) which should lead you to the right document. Hope this helps. I have used the Returns of Owners of Land 1873 but the location of land owned is not specific enough for my purposes. Specifically, the locations I am interested in are the following:locations close to Llanidloes- A) Cwm Biga Bach (aka CwmBiga Uchaf) Civil Parish of Trefeglwys and its environs. Map coordinates: 285185, 289570 12 acres. Almost certainly this is rented land. but is adjacent to much bigger properties, one of 1100 acres and one of 826 acres. B) Llyndu - Civil Parish of Llangurig and its environs . Map coordinates: 286772, 283245 C) Croes Isaf - Hamlet or Tything of Ystradynod , Llanidloes Map Coordinates: 289364,288703 I wonder if anybody has done any specific research into landownership in this area. Is the area part of a bigger estate, for example? Any help in this matter would be gratefully received.
